ceived from president general of the ap-
pointment of your state president to
represent Daughters of the Confed-
eracy at the national arbitration and
peace congress to meet rNew Tork
April 14 to 17. Inclusive. BThe follow-
ing request comes with the appoint-
ment: “Please appoint two delegates
from each chapter in your division and
request them to notify Mr. Hayne Da-
via, national arbitration and peace con-

It was not long until the word had
passed to all the members of the local
chapter of the Daughters. They told
each other, telephoned each other and
sent notes, and this afternoon they
came in solid battle formation. As-
sembling first in the room in the cap-
itol where they are wont to meet, a
course of action was decided upon. They
divided, some going to the senate to
talk with the Idle members of that body
who were about the senate chamber,
while others hurried to the reception
room of the house and members were
, sent for. It was not long until they
had a large number of those with whom
they had talked pledged to vote against
the resolution when the time oomes.

Eo the Presidents of the Chapters of
the Daughters of the Confederacy; You
are earnestly requeste to wire your
senator and reprenentatives at Austin
to oppose the resolution introduced in
the house of representatives Saturday
morning, the purpose of which is to
take from the Daughters of the Confed-
eracy the room in the state oapftol sej
aside by resolution of the Twenty-
eighth legislature for the sacred relief
of the Confederacy, which is now and
has been in charge of the Albert Sidney
Johnston ohapter N Austin. This room
ome. We ad;
upon the heartstrings bringing out
such rich harmonies which. finding

fill. Its operator is sympathy. That
volceless message goes out from the
hearts of the Daughters of the Confed-
eracy to our sister into whose home the
gray angel has entered. bearing out
the brother whose life, though brief,
has nobly fulfilled the destny designed

every cause, and while it must needs
be that hearts break, yet the impetus

Mr. Lane of Tarrant, the ever ready
champion of anything that pertains to
the Confederacy, the Veterans, the
Daughters or the Sons of Veterans, was
on his feat in a moment and bitterly
opposed the resolution.
Mr Peeler of Travis favored it, but
home. A cordial greeting was ex-
tended the state historian, Mrs. Mar-
garet Watson of Alta Loma, who had
come down to be present at the meet-
ing. At the conclusion of other busi-
ness Mrs. Hervey nnnounced the fol-
lowing programme Soprano solo, "In
Blossom Time." Chadwick. Miss Edith
Levy, accompanied by Miss Laura
Park. Reading, "The Spirit of Lberty
at Thermopylae, at the Alamo, at Sa-
bine Pass, Sept. S. 1863," by Mrs. Mar-

Julia Jackson chapter met at the
camp room Friday, April 6. Reports
from committee on the San Jacinto
battle, through the chairman, Mra Co-
vert, and the secretary. Miss lach,
showed that all arrangements had been
perfected for a very attractive enter-
tainment at the Fort Worth rink April
21. It only remains for Daughters,
Sons and Veterans to call upon Collec-
tor Gilvin at the city hall for tickets
to- sell so that everyone can have the
opportunity of seeing veterans of the
wsr between the states in an exhibi-
tion drill. The Dallas camp carried
off the honors before, so the Higbee
guards are wearing their shoes out in
ths determination to keep the honors
st horns this time. The Van Amberg
shows will be here April 15, and by an
agreement with the state president.
Mrs. Dibrell. they donate 16 per cent of
their gross recepts to tbs Confederate
Women’s home. The Daughters be-
apeak a full attendance for foe benefit
of the work, to whioh the chapter has
bent every energy during the past
three years—a home for the old women
at Austin.
