Men, women and children ran-
sacked house after house in
Kampala today, reportedly
joined in the looting by vic-
torious Tanzanian troops.
Cheering thousands rallied at
the Parliament building to
celebrate the ouster of
President Idi Amin from the
city.
Amin, believed to have fled
ahead of the Tanzanians and
Ugandan rebels who took his
capital Tuesday night, contin-
ued broadcasting from a radio
transmitter >n eastern Uganda,
claiming, "We have got our sol-
diers controlling the country."
But residents of towns along
the eastern escape route used
by Amin's soldiers said the
troopn were looting, harassing
residents at gunpoint and steal-
ing cars to help their flight
from the Tanzanians. •
