The First Presbyterian Church Of Rusk
The First Presbyterian Church
of Rusk, pastored by the Rev. Tom
Dyal, has a rich historical back-
ground. It descended from one of
the oldest Presbyterian Churches
in Texas.
Presently it is a union of the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church
and the "Old School" Presbyterian
Church effected in 1907. The Cum-
berland church began in Rusk on
May 2, 1847.
A history of the church, com-
piled on the occasion of its 75th
anniversary, said that following the
union, it was determined to move
to a third and more central meet-
ing place. That place is the lot
now occupied for the First Pres-
byterian Church.
Both buildings were moved to
the lot in 1908. It Is said that ser-
vices were held in one of the build-
ings while it was enroute to its new
location.
The present church building was
erected in 1913-14, the first brick
church built in Rusk.
Services of the First Presbyter-
ian Church are as follows:
Sunday School 9:45
Morning Worship 11:00
Evening service 7:00
Family night suppers are held
on the second week of each month
and a men's supper on the fourth
Wednesday.
Glenn Miller is chairman of the
Board of Deacons and W. M. Mc-
Cluney is c 1 e r k of the Session
Board. Mrs. Mildred Fulton is
president of the women of the
church and Mrs. Jack Nichols is
organist.
