Old-time gardeners arranged their
vegetable plots in beds. This is not
the best system as a matter either of
economy of space or convenience in
cultivation, especially as we now
make the work of cultivation light by
wheel hoes and improved baud tools.
The crops should run in straight rows
across the garden and from north to
south if the lay of the land permts
for more even distribution of sun.
The- spacing apart of the rows
should be made to suit the method of
cultivation. Plain hoeing does not
raquire as wide a space as a two-
wheeled hoe.
The plan should show plajnly the
companion and succession crops. A
companion crop is one that grows
with another crop at least part of the
season. A succession crop is one
that follows after the ’ ground has

but one weakness, the one through

The revival of interest In vegetable
growing has brought about keen com-

vegetables. This year will see even
more of this healthful and profitable

It leads to higher quality food and
to greater returns from the soil. It

his soil and the growing conditions

“I know—I know—” Juan had
cried at that point in the tale. He
himself, realizing what had taken
place, had drawn his short sword
and leaped to his feet. But his

him.
"Let her go unharmed," he had
