FEDERAL FLY-COUNTERS
- Tucked away in the Demon-
stration Cities bill is a new-
kind of census which presents
endless possibilities to the in-
ventive mind and the political
bureaucrat, according to Rep
Richard Poff (R.-Va.). He
savs, "Wrapped up in a lot of
legalistic language is a provi-
sion to pay selected' persons
$100 a day to count flies and
rats in the cities across the
countrv."

SHORT COUNT Resolution
allowing $1.2 million for
"Water for Peace" conference"
breezed through Serete, was
brought up in the House under
a suspension of the rules. Chair
announced it passed by voice
vote. Rep. Gross (R.-Iowa)
suggested absence of quorum
forcing roll call. Resolution
didn't get necessary two-thirds,
so Water for Peace had no
cash. Later House voted $900,-
000. Gross savings $300,000.
"The driver who burn* up
the road often lands in the
cooler."
Maybe our'67 Pontiac
is breaking sales records
because people dont want to
wait until '68 for a copy.
Our engineers have become used to
seeing their ideas show up on othercars.
Two years late. And apparently so have a
lot of car buyers. Because 1967 Pontiacs
are selling faster than 1966 Pontiacs.
And '66 was a record year.
When you think about it, why should
you wait around for innovations like our
disappearing windshield wipers? Or for
imaginative options like our exclusive
hood-mounted tach? Especially when
you consider that our engineers
wouldn't turn a Pontiac loose with any-
thing less than a standard 400 cubic
inch V-8. Or a Tempest with anything less
than our revolutionary Overhead Cam
Six. (Not to mention all those new safety
feature., like GM's energy absorbing
steering column and a dual master cyl-
inder brake system with warning lamp.)
In short, our engineers
seem to have done it again.
They may even start asking
for royalties on the copies.
