Church of Christ with the Faith-
Based Service Award.
Jennifer Morris, family resource

church for the honor.
The congregation was recognized
for helping with numerous commu-
nity and school events, including a
back-to-school night, a fall festival and
a tutoring program.

OTISVILLE — With flames shooting
out of the roof and smoke billowing
into the sky, firefighters rushed to
the Otisville Church of Christ on a
recent Wednesday afternoon.
Now, as firefighters investigate

MILWAUKEE — After riots broke out
in Milwaukee, members of the
Northtown Church of Christ helped
clean up the streets.
The recent violence followed the
shooting of Sylville Smith, a 23-year-
old black man, by a police officer. The
officer also is black, authorities said.
Within the past year, the Northtown
church — which has a mix of black
and white members — has hosted
roundtable discussions to help
members better understand each
other and learn how to overcome
racism, minister Alex Clayton said.
“Social injustice is real. Racism is
real. Oppression is real,” Clayton told

donated money to send 26 children to
Crowley’s Ridge Youth Camp.
“This is something we feel is really
special for these kids to be able to

these kids
would not
otherwise
have the
opportu-
nity to do
something
like this
during the
summer.”
Devante
Battles, 10,
enjoyed his
first camp experience.
“This camp is so much fun because
we get to cooperate with our friends,”
he told the newspaper. “We get to go
to the zipline and go swimming, and
we make new friends here. I love it.”
