Girls BB Season Opened At
Summerfield Last Weekend

The Rusk Girls Basketball-
team suffered a setback as
they opened their season this
past weekend. The team par-
ticipated in the New Summer,
field tournament.
In their opening game they
downed the L.anevill six by
a wide 42-28 margain. In th-
eir second game on Saturday
afternoon, the Rusk girls fell
to New Summerfield 40-18.
Saturday evening Rusk met
^Jacksonville vying for third
íplace. The Eagles fell short
*l>y a mere nine points and
*the final score was SI to 42
jwith Jacksonville taking home
£t)ie third place trophy.
First place was won by La
i^oynor with New Summer fie 11
«-taking second place.
*-'jana Birdwell of the Fagle
«-team was named to the All
^Tournament team at the con-
clusion of the tournev.
In the first and second gam-
es Sandra Carter was high
point for Rusk. Debbie Wag.
goner scored 24 points in the
game against Jacksonville.
Coaching the girls is Doug
Jordan. He reports that the
Eagles only have three re-
turning forwards, Jana Bird-
well, Sheila Johnson and San.

Club Annual Girls Basketball

1965 Ford which was totally demolished fol-
lowing a one car accident Thursday mornine
about 3 1 '2 miles out Farm Road 1857. The
car went off the road, overturned and landed
in a creek fie J. Driver of the car. Jack
David Rerrv of Ruck, and a pac«eneer, Pres-
ton Clanton, also of Rusk, were also
admitted to Rusk Memorial Hospital and re-
leased Friday. The accident was investiga-
ted by Highway Patrolmen Joe French and

Funeral services were held
Fridav afternoon at 3;00p.m.
in the Wallace Funeral Chap-
el for Mrs. Johnnie B, West-
moreland, aee 65, of Rusk.
She passed away Thursday
mornine in a Jacksonville
hospital following a three
week illness. Officiating for
the final rites were Bruce
James and James Wilson. In-
terment was in Rusk's Cedar
Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Westmoreland was a
hospital attendant at Rusk
State Hospital for 38 years.
She retired in 1969. She was
a member of the Church of
Christ.
Survivors include her hus-
band, E.H, Westmoreland of
Rusk; one brother, R.J, Bar-
ron of Sommersville: and one

cake and punch were served to
the honoree and his guests
Karmon and Christy Johnson,
Molly Thrash and Stephanie
Stovall.
Jeffrey Johnson celebrated
his 2nd birthday Sunday with
a party at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville
Lynn Johnson.
Also attending were Jef-
frey's grandmother, Mrs,
O.F, Johnson of Reklaw;
his great grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. W.B. Johnson of
Reklaw; and Mrs. Bruce
Stovall, Mrs. Bobby Thrash,
and Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Johnson.

and children Marily and Skelly
are visiting her mother Mrs,
Fmbree at Sourlake for the
Thanksgiving holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Work and
two children of Kountze were
weekend guests of her mother
