Easter Seal Services Stepped Up
Because of the steady
growth in numbers of
crippled children and
adults in Texas, the Easter
Seal Society for Crippled
Children and Adults of
Texas has stepped up its
rehabilitation services.
Joe T. Terrell, who is the
Easter Seal Representa-
tive for the County, said
20.152 handicapped Texans
received Easter Seal treat-
ments during 1974.
"Despite medical scien-
tific advances," Terrell
explained, "the rank of the
crippled are growing. This
is because of population
growth, increased number
of accidents and medical
treatments which saves
victims of crippling
diseases who might not
have lived in past years."
Quoting the annual re-
port of the Easter Seal
Society for Crippled Chil-
dren and Adults of Texas,
affiliated treatment cen-
ters in Texas provide
treatment and rehabilita-
tion, speech and hearing
and educational programs,
and many other services
required by the physically
disabled to live normal
lives.
The largest group served
includes those with major
deformities of bones and
joints, severe speech de-
fects, cerebral palsy, arth-
ritis, muscular dystrophy
and multiple sclerosis and
stroke. The Easter Seal
Campaign, which provides
funds for continuation of
these services, begins
February 24, and continues
through March 30, Easter
Sunday.
