Cherokee County Bar Association
Organizes Law Explorer Club
The Cherokee County
Bar Association has an-
nounced recent organiza-
tion of a Law Explorer club
for high school boys and
girls, according to Presi-
dent Gordan F. Thrall, with
twelve charter members.
Thunderbird District
chairman for Explorer
sales and training, Tom
Melzger, explained the
Explorer program . District
Scout Executive Paul D.
Auchter was present to
answer questions.
Attorney John S. Ament,
Advisor to the group, told
the youth what the bar
association had to offer the
club as the members found
out more about the law
prol'esion. Ament said that
some of the activities
planned for the group
were attendance at a
district court session, tour
of an abstract and title
company, tour of some
individual law offices,
court reporter demonstra-
tion. and a tour of a
correctional facility.
Members of the bar
association who will be
supporting the youth are
Attorney Thrall, District
Attorney LeRue Dixon, and
attorneys Bill Paul, Tom
Kendall, and Bill Holland.
Temporary post officers,
selected are. from Jack-
sonville, Miss Evelyn Car-
ter. President; Charles
Dickson, first vice presi-
dent ; Billy Wayne Price.

Alpha Alpha Gamma
Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi
met Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the
home of Mrs. Mary Jone
Jones for a regular
meeting.
An interesting program
on home decorating was
presented by Mrs. Linda
Maitland. Mrs. Nanette
Irwin also presented a
program on art, using
landscape pictures which
were painted by her father,
Cullen Schochler.
During the business
meeting final plans were
made for the February
Valentine banquet. Mem-
bers also voted to serve at
the Quarterback Club's All
Sports Banquet slated for
Mar. 7 in the Fellowship
Hall at First United
Methodist Church.
Refreshments of sand-
wiches, chips, dips, cake
and punch were seved by
Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Judy
Ramey, co-hostesses.

A surprise birthday
party for Mrs. James Steed
of Alto was held Sunday,
Feb. 22 at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Perkins Holcomb
of Rusk.
The event was sponsored
by Mrs. Steed's sisters.
Mrs. Holcomb and Mrs.
J.S. Commander of Den-
ton. who celebrated the
birthday with a noon
luncheon, also.
Birthday cake decorated
in spring colors, nuts,
chocolate mints, punch,
coffee and spiced tea was
served by Miss Shannon
Jones and Mrs. Billy Ray
Johnson. Gifts were pre-
sented Mrs. Steed.
