Elementary Program Ends, To be Shown at RSH

Rusk Elementary School
voted last Friday on the
best pictures in the Picture
Ladies Program which en-
ded recently after six
weeks of preentations.
Ten women presented
the program which invol-
ved telling the students
about different artists and
their famous paintings.
Participating in the pro-
gram were Lynn Brown,
Marge Hunter, Margaret
Perkins, Joy Westbrook,
Judy Williams, Dana Hol-
land and substitutes, Julia
Gossett, Carol Stovall,
RSH Em ployes Honored
Dr. Robert Sheldon, Rusk State Hospital, superintendent, stands between two
outstanding employes at RSH. Mrs. Wanda Choate was honored at RSH's 25th
annual Open House Friday as the Pychiatric Nurse Technician of the Year while
Jimiqy L. Christopher was named Psyciatric Aide of the Year. Mrs. Choate will
enter state competition for her past achievements. Fellow workers chose the two

Awards Ceremony
Two Rusk State Hospital
employees were recogni-
zed for their contributions
to the hospital during
RSH's 25th annual Open
House awards ceremony
Friday morning. Mrs.
Wanda Choate and Jimmy
L Christoper were chosen
by their fellow employees
as the most outstanding
workers for the past year.
Mrs. Choate was awar-
ded the Pyschiatric Nurse
Technician of the Year
Award while Christopher
was presented the Pyschia-
tric Aide of the Year
Award.
The woman was noted for
her 15 and a half years of
service at RSH and her
many additional in-service
programs in which she par-
ticipated. Her award noted
in short that she is "ambi-
tious and tempers it with
common sense. She is effi-
cient, innovative and exhi-
bits tact, honesty and good
judgment in carrying out
her duties and in her rela-
tionship with others. She
demonstrates clinical ex-
pertise in performing her
duties.
"She is an employee who
responds to the needs of
patients in her care and to
fellow employees in a bene-
volent and unassuming
manner. She is outstanding
in her professional capa-
city and in community and
charitable endeavors. Her
unpretentiousness toward
her deed and her dedica-
tion to patient cae conse-
quently sets her apart as an
exceptional employee."
Mrs. Choate is married
to Gerald Choate and they
have two sons, Robert 14,
and Kelly. 8. The woman
completed the Psychiatric
Nurse Technician with an
Associate of Science de-
gree from Henderson Coun-
ty Junior College. She also
completed 520 hours in-ser-
vice training in the Hospi-
tal Staff Development
course in 1970.
She received an award
for patriotic service in sup-
port of U.S. Savings Bond
Program in 1972. She com-
pleted 40 hours Pharm-lo-
gic nursing course in 1973.
She attended a seminar in
communication in July,
1973, and a course in Civil
Defense Adult Education.
She finished an 80 hour
course requiring proficincy
examinations in the admi-
nistration of medication in
1975.
Jimmy Christopher be-
gan his employment with
Rusk State Hospital in June
of 1975 as an MH-MR aide
on the Alcoholism Treat-
ment Unit. In November of
1976, he was promoted to an
MH-MR services assistant.
He is recognized as hav-
ing a positive attitude to-
ward working with the al-
coholism patients. He has
continued his learning ex-
periences through In-ser-
vice Training Classes and
continues to accept respon-
sibility and to demonstrate
personal growth and matu-
rity in his job.

The Ponta 4-11 club has
scheduled its monthly mee-
ting for Thursday, May 12,
at 7:30 p.m. in the Ponta
Community Center. The
meeting will involve par-
limentary procedure train-
ing with the youth taking
an active role in conducting

Mrs. Perkins noted the
program was so well recei-
ved at the elementary
school that Mrs. Gerri God-
sey, assistant coordinator
of the Volunteer Services
Council at Rusk State Hos-
pital, approached the Pic-
ture Ladies and asked that
they might present their
program to the patients at
RSH during the summer.
The program would run
from May through August.
Each class at the ele-
mentary school had a
chance to vote on the top
three pictures that were
shown to their class. The
teacher's class and the top
three pictures were: Loys

Rousseau, "Impasse Cot-
ton by Henri Toulousse

ber of the Rusk 4-H club, is
entered in the 1977 North-
east Texas Dairy Show
which is scheduled for May
12-14, at the Sulphur
Springs City Park in Sul-
phur Springs, Texas.
Rodney will be entering
his 1976 Houston Calf Sc-
ramble holstein heifer in
the Open and Junior Dairy
Show. The Junior Show will
begin at 9:00 a.m. on May
13, and the Open Show will
be held on May 14 begin-
ning at 8:00 a.m.
Debbie Jinkins, a mem-
ber of the Ponta 4-H club,
has been chosen from Che-
rokee County to be a dele-
gate to attend the 1977
Naitonal 4-H Citizenship
Short Course and Heritage
Tour at Washington, D.C.
on June 14-28.
The tour and short course
will begin in Dallas. Debbie
and other delegates from
Texas will stop and visit
several historial sites on
the way to Washington,
D.C. Also, delegates will
visit the Nation's Capito!.

Citizenship topics rela-
ting to the individual's con-
cept and responsibilities of
citizenships are covered in
