The Glory Days of the Stafford Opera House
removed from the building. Faced with the prospect of
sinking a large amount of money into a theater which had
always been unprofitable, he made an appeal to the commu-
nity for funds. But his appeal was not answered, and Troxell
cleaned up the probletn on his own. There is no list of the
items that Troxell removed, but it is possible if not probable
that the curtain was among them.
Still, there is no documentation of the fate of the
curtain, and either or neither explanation herein offered may
be true. All that is known for certain is that the curtain was
gone by 1935, when Zumwalt wrote of its fate.
