2 On October 16, 1832, Joseph Duty claimed that he had been granted only one-half league,
and, since he had gotten married, was entitled to another half-league. He was granted the land he asked
for, in Travis County, on October 30, 1832. Evidence suggests that, if Duty did indeed have a partner
in what is presently known as the "Duty League" within Colorado County, it might have been Juan
Tovar (see Joseph Duty Title, Austin Land Papers, Box 2, Folder 7, Spanish Collections, Archives
and Records Division, Texas General Land Office, Austin; Original Field Notes in English, Book 1,
p. 215, Spanish Collection, Archives and Records Division, Texas General Land Office, Austin).22
