CANDLE ON A BIRTHDAY CAKE is blown by Jewel Coupland düring Whitehead
Enterprises Christmas party festivities Friday at the New Southern Motor Hotel.
Mrs. Coupland was a long time employee of the Cherokeean prior to her retirement
a couple of years ago. Her tenure of service dates back to 1945. She celebrated her
birthday on Dec. 13 and the Friday evening party served a dual purpose.
Staff members of
Whitehead Enterprises
were entertained with a
Christmas dinner party
Friday evening at the New
Southern Restaurant.
The menu featured roast
beef and baked potatoes.
Dessert was a surprise for
Mrs. Jewel Coupland who
had observed a birthday
Dec. 13. The cake and one
lighted candle were ac-
companied by "happy bir-
thday greetings" sung by
the guests.
Another surprise
highlight was a narrated
slide presentation. Several
staff members had com-
bined their talents to take
slides when other staff
members were not aware
of it, and they developed a
narration which proved to
be equally humorous and at
times true of the situation
in progress.
Gifts were exchanged
with words of appreciation
from the hosts, Emmett
and Marie Whitehead.
Present were Debbie and
David Chandler, Merv and
Mary Dawson, Diana and
Dale Speer, Sherry and
William Blankinship, Park
Watson, Ted Townsend,
Mike Terrell, Beverly
Fletcher, Robert Farrow,
Kevin Gentry, Betty
Spaulding, Nancy Largent,
Steve Lee, Stan Nolley and
Gloria Jennings. Special
guests were Jerry Sullivan,
Jane Lowe, Susan Steele,
Kate Stovall and Mrs.
Coupland.

a young person either onto
the farm or into a vareity of
jobs far removed from
daily farm life.

animal nutrition, meat in-
spection and grading, truck
