The clover was drilled with a
grain drill last October. Fertiliz-
er used was a balanced fertilizer
with boron added. The pure stand
was top dressed with 100 pounds
of ammonium nitrate in the early
spring.
"If I had recovered all the seed
from the 17 acres of pure stand,
I believe I would have made 600
pounds of clover seed per acre."
Adams said. Inclement weather
caused excessive shattering and
loss of seed, Adams pointed out.
Adams, a cooperator with the
Kaufman-Van Zandt Soil Con-
servation District, thinks crimson
clover has a place in the conser-
vation and grazing program
around Wills Point. He thinks, if
planted in the bottoms, it will be
better than vetch as a soil im-
proving crop. He is following the
recommendations of the local Soil
Conservation Service technicians,
and believes in treating the soil
according to its needs
“A lot of time can be saved if
the fertility level is considered
before starting a conservation
practice," Adams said
