Farm Income Shows
Seasonal Increase
Austin—Texas farmers’ cash in-
come for the first quarter of 1954
was four per cent higher than the
same period last year, the Uni-
versity of Texas Bureau of Busi-
ness Research reports.
Income from peanuts was up
109 per cent, sheep and lambs
106 per cent, oats 64 per cent,
grain sorghum 46 per cent, cot
ton 16 per cent, and cattle and
wool, both 14 per cent.
Wheat income dropped 40 per
cent and cottonseed and mohair
incomes each 39 per cent.
March crop prices averaged
3 per cent higher than February
but prices for livestock and prod-
ucts dropped 3 per cent.
The Texas agricultural picture
brightened during April as rains
ranging from light to drenching
fell over much of the state, the
bureau says. By late April, how-
ever, no general relief had alle-
viated the drouthy conditions re-
sulting from the driest January-
March quarter ever recorded in
Texas history.
Rainfall particularly helped the
North Texas wheat crop, labeled
' near disaster” only hours before
rains set in, the researchers re-
port. In the state's eastern, cen-
tral and southern portions, mois-
ture also helped the crop out-
look. Lower Rio Grande Valley
conditions particularly were en-
couraging in spite of damaging
floods in some fields.

ANNOUNCEMENTS -1
JUST THINKING
By REV. T. T. NEWTON
"Every tub must sit on its own
bottom" is often quoted as a
Bible passage. However, it is not
found in the Bible, yet it express-
es a Bable truth. The idea prob-
ably stems from the Bible state-
ment, "Everyone must give an
account of himself before God.”
Most everyone is convinced
that we must appear before the
Judgement Seat of God for reck-
oning although it is taken very
lightly by a large number of peo-
ple. Most of us live each day as
if this were not true that we must
appear before God. This should
be so demonstratd by professed
Christians. When any one of us is
expecting to be presented to an
outstanding personality or if we
know we are to be in the com-
pany of persons of rank, we try
to appear at our best. We want
to be sure that our personal ap-
pearance is near perfect. We
want to be well groomed in dress
and conduct. We want to make
a good impression.
If this be true in our earthly
affairs where we shall be seen
only for a moment, and may be
not heard at all, they why should
we endeavor to be on the highest
limb of daily living knowing full
well that one day we shall have
to appear before the greatest per-
sonalities ever known or heard
about—Christ, the Son of God and
God the Father Himself.
We have heard this adage,
“Beauty is as beauty does." The
meaning seems to be this, that
real beauty and charm is best
known by true, conscientious,
faithful service and helpfulness.
When we are in need we rarely
think of outward appearance. We
are concerned about the immedi-
acy and quality of real help. By
many, Jesus was not seen as an
outstanding, flashing personality
as Isaiah reports in chapter fifty-
three. When He was on earth,
some questioned, “Can any good
thing come out of Nazareth. Some
saw only an imposter. Others
saw one possessed with an evil
spirit. Yet other saw in this same
Person, Jesus Christ, "The Lily of
the Valley, The Rose of Sharon,
The Bright and Morning Star,
The Prince of Peace, The King of
Kings, yea even the Son of God."
What makes the difference?
Those who saw the real beauty
of Jesus saw Him with healing in
His wings. He was interested in
the “down and out” and “the up
and out.” He was able to help
all who would allow Him to give
aid. Quite often it is true that
those who have most in material
goods are those who need most in
spiritual matters. But regardless
whether or not we trust Jesus we
must all appear before Him.
