RESTROOMS MUST STOP
Something needs to be done
in regard to the crowded condi-
tion of the girls’ restroom during
the lunch period. Each day about
20 minutes before time for class-
es to resume, some of the girls
go to the restrooms and stay un-
til the bell rings. This makes it
impossible for others to get in.
As soon as one can leave, she
should do so.
There also are some who stay
in the restrooms when they should
be in class. If they have a test
or haven’t got their lesson, they
use it as a convenient hide away.
And worst of all, a few have
even been known to eat their
lunches in the restrooms. This,
besides being unsanitary, is a
disgrace to our school.
So let's work together, girls,
for the improvement of these
conditions.

BLUE SWAN MURDER
CASE BEING HELD
The speech class at Canton
High School enacted a murder
with witnesses and are now hold-
ing a trial.
The names, dates and places
were changed to protect the in-
nocent.
Mr. Allen Dawson married a
rich young lady who set him
up in business. Larry Everett
has been running around with
Mrs. Dawson.
On the night of Feb. 24, Mr.
Dawson called all of his friends
to the Blue Swan Inn. There he
confronted Larry and Mrs. Daw-
son with the fact that he knew
of their escapades. Later the
lights went out and then came
back on. While the lights were
out, Mrs. Dawson was stabbed
with an olive fork. After the
lights came on again, Mr. Daw-
son with drew the fork from
his wife’s heart.
Mr. Dawson was arrested and
is being tried.
The trial is excellent speech
training for the witnesses as
well as the lawyers. Interest

JUNIOR PANELISTS
IN P.-T. A. PROGRAM
Thursday, March 2, the Par-
ent-Teachers Association met in
the Canton Band Hall at 2:30
p. m.
After songs and a Mother
Goose skit by the third grade,
there was a panel consisting of
four high school students, Jim
Phillips, Suzy Browns, Larry
Roberts and Vicki Simpson.
The discussion was on the TV
viewing habits of grade school
and high school students, and
the quality of their reading
habits. In a recent survey in
high school it was found that
most students watch television
less than 10 hour a week, and
that most of the items read in
the newspaper were the comics
and the "Campus Chatter" found
in The Canton Herald.
i They also said that a student
could have a fine library with
50 cents a week spent on •classics
and other fine books.

Individual teachers will at-
tend section meetings from 2 to
4 p. m. School visitations will
be held from 3 to 5:30 Friday;
a meeting of the National Edu-
cation Association will be held;
and a Delta Kappa Gamma tea
will be held from 4 to 5 o’clock
the boys joined the track and
volleyball teams, the weightlift-
ing class has been slimmed down
to 25 boys. Coach McCauley has
posted a routine for the boys
who play ball of any type. This
routine is designed to build up
their strength and endurance.
Tennis: The tennis court at
the city park is progressing ami
should be ready for play soon.
By Thursday the court had been
cleaned up, lines had been
marked off, and net posts and
screen posts had been set up to
accommodate a new net and
"hurricans" screens for those
whirlwind tennis proteges of
Coach Dawson. Students work-
ing out at the park will not be
under school supervision with
the new court the Eagles will be
able to get in more work; one
group at the gym and the other
at the city park. For those who
would be interested, workouts
begin at 4:15 p. m.
On April 6 the district match-
es will be held. Canton will
take six players, three boys
and three girls. They will com-
pete against Van in the singles’
matches and Grand Saline in the
doubles.
There are 20 people out for
tennis, 12 girls and eight boys.
Baseball; With Kaufman not
fielding a baseball team, Dis-
trict 15AA was presented a
problem. It was solved when
Gladewater was inserted into
the district to compete with
outs next week if the weather
the other members.
fhe Eagles will begins work-
permits, according to Coach
Chapman. A good number of
boys is expected to try out lor
the team. There are two trouble
spots to be filled. Canton needs
several top-flight pitchers to com-
pete against the bigger schools,
and a goou catcher is also need-
d. 11 these two positions are
filled, the team will be in good
shape to give the other teams a
hal'd race for the championship.
Six of seven boys are expect-
ed back from last year's cham-
pionship plus some boys who
have played at one time or an-
other.
All the Eagles district games
will be played at night and away.
This is unusual, but the locals
won the championship last year
under the lights, and maybe
their luck will hold out. How-
ever, there will be only one
round robin of play, so one loss
would just about eliminate any
team.
SPORTS EDITOR
Track: The local thinly clads
are preparing for their first
meet, the Dogwood Relays at Pal-
estine, on Saturday, March 11.
As it appears now, the Eagles
will be stronger in the track
events than in the field events,
but the over-all team strength
is uncertain.
In Coach Owens’ words, "It’s
too early to tell.” However, the
team appears to have two strong
events, the mile and the mile
relay. Dean Loven broke a five-
minute mile Tuesday, and four
boys ran under 55 seconds in the
440. Sixteen boys are out for
track and everyone hopes they
will bring home a district cham-
pionship this season.
Weightlifting: Since some of
IMPROVEMENT NEEDED
IN PARKING AREA
The students of CHS who drive
cars to school show little consid-
eration for others when they
park on the front line. Everyone
crowds to the back so they can
be the first to leave. Others
park sideways behind these.
This makes it very difficult for
teachers or students who may,
for various reasons, need to
leave at some time during
classes.
The breaking of bottles in the
parking area is very dangerous
and most unnecessary. This glass
scattered over the ground could
very easily cause someone to
have a flat tire or even cause in-
jury to the students.
CHS has a parking area it can
be proud of, provided it is taken
care of in the right way. We, as
students, should realize this and
try to do our very best to im-
prove these conditions.
