GOSS YOUTH
(Continued From Page 1A)
intersection.
The youth suffered a
dislocated elbow and a blow
to his head.
Investigating officers were
Mr. Wilhite and City
Policeman Bobby Pruitt.
This same youth received
other injuries two weeks and
one day prior to this accident
when he fell from a tree. He
suffered two broken jaw
bones. The bones shattered
and went into his ears,
causing holes in his ear canals
and ear drums. His jaws had
to be wired from this ac-
cident.
After the accident Friday
night, his left jaw came un-
wired and had to be rewired.

Guilt Flavors Life
Guilt, like salt, is a useful

EPA REGULATIONS
MAY CAUSE DELAYS
Lengthy environmental
assessment reports may soon
be called for by the
Environmental Protection
Agency before certain new
agricultural and industrial
operations can be
constructed. An agricultural
engineer in waste
management with the Texas
Agricultural Extension
Service says that the
proposed EPA regulations
would subject new feedlots
and certain other agricultural
“point sources” to the
Environmental Impact
Statement (EIS) Program
established under the
National Environmental
Policy Act of 1969.

Phone Co. Says
Off the Hook
Means Trouble
The telephone receiver left
off the hook or cradle means
trouble to the customer and to
us at General Telephone,
according to Jo Anne Reed,
division manager at Sulphur
Springs.
Whether accidentally or
intentionally, a receiver off
hook means all calls—routine
or emergency—cannot get
through.
Mrs. Reed said to keep
service levels high and to
keep telephone service rates
at the lowest possible level, it
is company policy to
temporarily disconnect lines
that are unnecessarily typing
up equipment that other
customers could be using if a
receiver was not left off hook.
When a reciever has been off
hook for a prolonged time, the
equipment flashes an alarm.
After testing to determine
that an off-hook situation does
exist, the line is disconnected.
If there are periods when
you do not want the ringing of
a telephone to interrup you,
call the business office so we
can work with you in
providing a service tailored to
your needs.

Canton Eagles will take on
the top contender for the
district title Friday night
when they travel to
Brownsboro. Kickoff time is
slated at 7:30 p.m. in the
Bears’ stadium.
Brownsboro comes into the
game with a healthy 3-0-1
district record. They have
victories over Grand Saline
26-0; Van 7-6; and Wills Point
19-0; and a surprising tie to
Malakoff 0-0.
The team probably has the
largest boys in the district,
Coach Bob Waldman stated
this week. They have speed in
the form of their two
halfbacks, Robert Davis (No.
32) and Jerry McCowan (No.
31), and their line will
average close to 200 pounds,
he said. Their quarterback,
Keith Bailey (No. 11) is only a
sophomore, and took over the
reigns this year when their
seasoned quarterback
suffered injuries. They do
throw a lot, and run the option
plays which takes a lot of
work.
B rownsboro is an
experienced ball club with
several returning starters.
They run a Houston Veer and
a five-man line.
Physically, the Eagles are
in good shape, the coach
continued but we are still
making mistakes that we
shouldn’t be making. “We
were disappointed in losing
last week, but you can’t
expect to make these kind of
mistakes and win. They are
honest mistakes, and maybe
our boys are trying too hard.
Charles McPhearson turned
in a good game along with Jay
Lee and Randy Smith.”
Eagle offensive starters
will be Randy Smith, qe; Mike
Norris, qt; Jay Lee, qg;
Wilson Risinger, c; Mike
