G.E.D. preparatory instructions
are being offered at Eastside Bap-
tist Church in Rusk. The church is
located on Academy Street just off
Hwy. 84 East. The class is already
underway and students may enroll
at any class session.
The class is being taught by Mrs
Ginny Harvey and meets Tuesday
and Thursday, 1-3 p.m. There is no
tuition fee and books and materials
are being furnished by the East
Texas Adult Education
Cooperative, Billy Watson, direc-
tor.
Literacy students and speakers of
languages other than English are
welcome to enroll. Prospective
students may enroll at any class

Sales Tax Receipts Received By Texas Cities

A total of 1,022 Texas cities
received $54.8 million in city sales
tax rebates for August, according to
Bob Bullock, state comptroller.
The Sept. 8 payments pushed the
city rebates for this year to $671.9
million, down .5 percent over yearly
payments to date during 1985.
Alto received $3,533.50 for the
payment period ending Aug. 29.
This figure compares to the
$3,240.59 paid to the city during a
comparable time period for last
year.
The total paid to Alto to date is
$31,316.16, down from the $31,811.34
paid to the city by the same time
last year The city showed a loss of

The Texas Highway Patrol in-
vestigated 38 rural traffic accidents
in Cherokee County during August,
according to Sergeant Sanders,
supervisor for this Highway Patrol
Sergeant Area These accidents
resulted in no deaths and 17 in-
juries
The total rural traffic accidents
for Cherokee County for this year is
207, which have resulted in 11
deaths and 143 injuries
The 22 counties which comprise
Highway Patrol District 6A have
had a total of 4,423 rural traffic ac-
cidents this year which have
resulted in 142 deaths and 3.080 in-
juries This compares to 4,439 ac-
cidents, 158 deaths, and 2,927 in
juries reported during this same
period last year
1.56 percent during the reporting
period. Cuney received $3,061.04,
bringing the total for the year to
$24,753.50.
Jacksonville received $59,700.59
for the Sept. 8 allotment. This figure
compares to $63,830.32 earned last
year during a comparable time
period.
The total paid to Jacksonville to
date is $688,386.49, down from the
$733,947.33 paid to the city by the
same time period last year The
city showed a loss of 6.21 percent
during the current reporting period
Rusk received $8.917.85 for the
time period ending Aug 29. This
figure compares to the $9.66199
paid to Rusk during the same time
period last year
The total paid to the city so far in
1986 is $115,513.05. up from the
$111,860 91 paid to Rusk last year
The gain for this time period is 3.26
percent over last year for Rusk
Wells received a check for
$739 62, down 17.9 percent from the
$947 06 received by the city for the
same time period last year The
City of Wells has received a total of
$9.888.35 for the year-to-date
payments, compared to $11,925.90
received in the sales tax rebates for
the same time period last year.

to word-processing and program-

will be lecture and the other half
will be "hands on" computer lab
