T-Bird halfbacks
lead way to win
Strong halfback play
by Vincent Ashman and
Brendon Reilly, and sharp
shooting by Damian Massey
led the way to a 3-0 vic-
tory over the Roadrunners.
The T-Birds halfbacks
carried most of the play
and were able to feed the
ball to the T-Birds’ for-
wards allowing for a two
goal blitz in the first half
and one goal in the second
half.
The T-Birds fullbacks
were tested several times
but hard charging Aaron
Alsbrook, Micah Davis,
John Salamone, and Bobby
Squashic were able to
blast the ball to the half-
back line and stop all
scoring threats by the
Roadrunners. The T-Birds
nearly had an additional
score on a high blast by
Christopher Galindo, but a
leaping stop by the Road-
runners goalie prevented
the fourth goal.
Other members of the
T-Birds are Marc Bell, Jeff
Davis, Shane McManus,

Rebels win again,
remain in first
Sunday’s game at home against the Keller Kickers kept the
Rebels in first place with a 3-1 win.
No doubt that the Kickers couldn’t believe this was the
same Rebels team that they had played in seasons past. The
Kickers started with a lot of speed but that’s when we play
our best games—full speed.
The Kickers goalie was tall and we had to work her out to
decide how to get the ball around her. It didn’t seem possible
to get it over her head because she could touch the top of
the crossbar. But the first goal came on a wall pass by Vicki
Tracy to Carol Vance. Vance hooked the ball around the
goalie, to sink it in.
Our newcomer, Vicki Tracy, who plays left wing-forward,
popped the second goal in around the goalie with a pass
from Vance.
The Rebels welcome Vicki Tracy to our team. Vicki was
inadvertently not mentioned last week, only because she has
fitted in so well that she wasn’t considered new. Vicki has
performed with much ball control and skill. Vicki transferred
from another team, where she played fullback six seasons.
Coach Soles saw her established skills and a lack of fear.
Vicki, congratulations on the first goal of your soccer career.
Special congrats should also go to our defensive line for
excellent play. Julia Roberts, Carol Bryant, Vivian Probeck and
Kathy Lenz were key factors in keeping the ball past the
halfline in our scoring area. Kathy’s foot centered the ball
every time it came near her area. Kathy was awarded the
“Defensive Player of the Week” trophy. “Offensive Player”
trophy went to Carol Vance for her two goals and an assist
on the third goal.
Vance made her second goal of the game and the third
score on a run down the middle. Her only chance to score
was to chip the ball in the air over the rushing goalie’s head.
Vance popped it high and over the goalie directly into the
net.
Lonnie Pautz nearly made a goal in the second half. This
is the second time Lonnie came close to scoring.
We had a special spectator. We were proud to win with our
sponsor Krestmark’s President George Thumlert cheering us on.
The Rebels still lead their division. Next game will be at
1:30 p.m. Sunday on Hobby Field at Garland Road and LBJ.
Go Rebels!
