In my opinion, there are lots of good reasons to vote
“no” on the Nov. 8 ballot to allow the City of The Colony to
sell bond-money park land for a high school site:
1—We have to fight the traffic on 121, why shouldn’t
our kids? Everyone knows that high schoolers are the
safest drivers, anyway.
2—This whole question wouldn’t have come up in the
first place if it weren’t for some obscure political battle
between City Councils and School Districts over the B. B.
Owens site north of town. Let’s just punish them by not
bailing them out of their own mess.
3—We just might have kids from North Carrollton
coming this way to school, and we certainly wouldn’t want
the City of Carrollton to get any ideas about improving the
roads between here and there for their sakes.
4—Some local jobs will undoubtedly be created by the
new school being here in town, and we want to do all we
can to keep everybody working out of town during the day.
5—With extracurricular stuff like drill team and band
and football games going on, the teenagers would actually
have something to do around here, which would mean they
wouldn’t get bored and vandalize, which would cause the
crime rate to go down, which would of course necessitate
a reduction in the police force. We surely don’t want to

New readers of the 7-year-old Colony Courier
have an opportunity in this column to glance back a
few years and see what was happening in the area
“in yesteryear.”
Items in the column come from the news files of
the Courier and the old Little Elm Tide that began
covering the Colony before the first families moved
into the city’s Fox & Jacobs homes late in 1974.

reduce the government payroll.
6—If a high school were local, that would mean no more
busing to Flower Mound or Lewisville. That would result
in a reduced amount of valuable socialization time for the
young people of this community; and many would miss the
learning experience of waiting for the bus on cold, dark,
winter mornings; a hardship which they will undoubtedly
recount with relish to browbeat their grandchildren.
7—We so rarely have an opportunity to just be ornery
and say “No!” for no good reason.
And those In My Opinion, would be the only good
reasons to vote “No” on Nov. 8.
