Sophomore Senator. Being at St.
Mary’s for a year, I have come to
know the people, as well as the
atmosphere of the university. I
have also become aware of the
importance that SGA has on St.
Mary’s. Because of this, I feel I
can contribute to this organiza-

ask for your support.

the position would be a great
learning experiencce for me.
Plus, I feel that I have many
characteristics which are needed
to be a valuable Senator. The
student government is made up
of a group of students who are
striving for goals that will help
St. Mary’s grow as a University.
This is one reason why the
student government is for me,
because I am very much for St.
Mary’s University. I believe that
St. Mary’s can only maintain
being a great University if the
students get to have their
feelings and ideas expressed. I
feel that I would make sure the
ideas and feelings of the Sopho-
more student body would be
stated at the Student Govern-
ment meetings. The only way
these ideas would be expressed
is by being energetic about what
I have to state. Since I am for the
student body, it would be easy
for me to be energetic about the
ideas and feelings of the stu-
dents.
Bill Schroeder
I am grateful for this opportu-
nity to announce my candidacy
for president of the Student
Government Association. As the
campaign unfolds, there are
several ideas I would hope you
keep in mind.
There are three important
qualities a student leader must
possess: experience, responsibi-
lity and commitment. Experi-
ence gained from previous lead-
ership postitions, responsibility
to the office and the duties of
that office, and an unshakable

By being involved with the
many organizations and com-
mittees I have been able to
observe many different aspects
of student life here at St. Mary’s.
Granted the present Student
Government has done an out-
standing job and opened many
doors for the upcoming candi-
dates, but at the same time, I
feel there is a need for decentra-
lization of the SGA. Two much
power rested with a few people,
and in the process, student body
involvement was neglected. The
main cause for my running is to
allow students to run the student
government again; to let stu-
dents have the power. I feel this
can be done through a stronger
committee system and a com-
mittee oriented executive
branch. If you vote for me, I’ll
do my best to see that these
goals are accomplished. It is
time for the student government
to once again belong to the
students.
The office of vice-president re-
quires availability, experience,
responsibility and maturity. My
background in campus organiza-
tions will provide these assets.
Having been a student senator
for three years has familiarized
me well with the process of
student government. Because I
am ahead on semester hours, I
will have to take light semesters
next year, allowing me more
time to dedicate myself to the
office. Furthermore, my involve-
ment in numerous organizations
in which I have held office
gives me an edge in knowing and
understanding parliamentary
procedures. In detail, I have
held offices in the Pre-Law
Society and the debate team.
Also, my broad involvement in

Student government should

Hello, my name is Linda S.
Pearce. I am currently seeking
the office of junior senator in
student government. I have a
firm belief that the success of
any project that involves a group
of people is the direct result of
the efforts put forth by the
individuals involved. My ex-
perience in several capacities
has allowed me to help bring
about results for people I’ve
been committed to.
Presently, I am committed to
the prospective law students at
would benefit. Along with the
seminar, I would like to initiate a
campus-wide organizations fair.
This would give all students the
opportunity to familiarize them-
selves with organizations that
exist and are available to them.
The past administration has
done an excellent job in estab-
lishing a superb working rela-
tionship with staff, faculty, ad-
ministrators, and board mem-
bers. Having been a member of
the Student Services Committee
of the Board of Trustees and the
Student Services Comittee of the
Retention Task Force, I realize
the immense value of having
student participation and input
in such committees. I am in
support of continuing, if not
increasing, student involvement
in such committees.
At a time when St. Mary’s has
made a committment to and
decisions for excellence, I be-
lieve the student body of this fine
university is also ready and
willing to accept that challenge.
It is my aspiration to help
promote such a movement as the
next Student Body President.
