Repairs made to well 3 in Rusk
Failure of the 75 horse motor
and pump at well 2 around
8:30 p.m. July 23 came within
inches of crSating a major water
outage for many resident s who
live east of U.S. 69 in Rusk.
The pump motor at well 2,
located on Guinn Hill, that
furnished all the water to
residents feast of the T of
Highways 84 and 110, faded.
Shad Mabry, who was check-
ing the wells on his nightly trip,
noticed the motor had failed,
and called Public Utility Direc-
tor Gene Kelley. Four other
water department employees
reported to work to assist the
transfer of the pump from
well 3. that had been out of
commission for a number of
months, to well 2.
The men worked without
a stop until around 2 a.m.
Tuesday morning when the
transfer was completed.
"We had only inches of water
left in the 400,000 gallon tank
at well 2, Kelley said
He expressed ajjpreciation to
Howard Ring, Robbie Parsons,
Kelly Collins, Glenn Walker
and Shad Mabry for their tire-
less work. Ivélléy stated that
Layne/Tex of Tyler sent two
men to set the pump level after
the exchange was completed.
The repaired motor is back
in Rusk and was installed at
well 3 Tuesday.
Well 3 has been out of service
for repairs for the past three
months. A contract was let to
paint the tank, but painters
discovered deterioration in side
the well that paint could not
fix, which caused a delay. The
city was forced to advertise
for bids, have the inside of
the tank repaired before the
painting on the inside could
continue,
The paint contractor is now
back on the job, and it is
believed he wdl complete his
work within a month.

Well last week I was sitting in a
classroom bored to tears but learning
some new and exciting things in
the world, so last week's report was
somewhat unnoticed.
This week however, I am back and
we had a great meeting. Rotarian
Diane Faucher brought our guest from
Rusk State Hospital. Her guest was Dr.
Clifford Moy, the chief psychiatrist from
Austin State Hospital.
Dr. Moy treated us to the latest
developments on the bill before the
House of Representatives on the Patients Bill of Rights.
The Senate has passed a version that President Bush
has threatened to veto and the House is now deliberating
the merits of this bill.
In any case, I would suggest to you that you contact
your representative and and senator to voice your opinion
of this bill and also contact the White House to throw your

support or opposition on the table. We as a group of citizens
need to take a stand and show our leaders the course we
wish them to take.
We had 12 members present including one new member.
We welcome Rita Hilliard to our group. Rita is the manager
of the Credit Union.
We also had a few guests. Levi Smallwood was here from
Pasadena and has visited on numerous occasions and is
always welcome and always shares great insight into Rotary
and what's going on within the district.
Chris Whitney was also visiting; Chris is the Texas Farm
Bureau agency manager for Rusk. We welcome him and extend
our invitation once again to permanently join our group.
Overall we had a few discussions of old business and some
new items, but mainly kept to discussing this Bill before the
House. I will be absent next week for an obligation out of town
but will report in absentia. Until next week
