Attempted Suicide
HILLSBORO, TEX., June 30,- A
German shoemaker in this city, John
Ring by name, attempted suicide by
hanging, while drunk and confined in the
calaboose here yesterday evening He .
removed his suspenders and fastened the
ends to his neck and a crossbeam above,
raised his feet clear off the floor and
awaited further developments.
Fortunately for him his condition was
discovered in time to prevent the
consumation of his purpose. Ordinarily
he is a steady, industrous fellow, but
quarreled with his wife a few days ago,
and upon her leaving him resorted to
drink to find surcease from his sorrows
Sheriff Cox paid John's fine last night and
he departed, vowing that he "don't drink
no any more."

I have a big house here in
Alto. It has six rooms.
There is one room that we
just sit in, two rooms that
we don’t do anything but
sleep in; one room that we
don’t do anything but
cook in; and there is one
that is all white and has a
place where we can wash
all over, and over in the
corner is a place that you
can wash your face in, and
over in the other comer is
a place you can wash your
feet in. When we moved
there were two lids on this,
but we have taken them
off. We are using one of
them for a dough board,
and we have framed
Grandpa’s picture with the
other.”

Editor’s note: The
following article came to
us courtesy of J. W. Davis
of Dublin. There was no
date or newspaper name
on the clipping but we
agreed with Mr. Davis
that it was worth
re-printing.
Honey Grove, June 13- Ambrose Hall,
who lived a few miles northwest of this
place, was struck and instantly killed by
lightening last night. He was sitting by
the fireplace talking with his brother
when lightening struck the chimney. Mr.
Hall was a farmer about 30 years old and
leaves a family.

FALLING CROWBAR
ENTERS MAN'S HEAD
Loses Portion of Brains But
Remains Conscious
David Whaley, according to a dispatch
from Brownwood dated last Sunday,
bids fair to recover from a frightful injury
which came about in a most unusual way.
Friday of last week a falling crowbar
plunged into Whaley's head. It not only
penetrated the skull but a small portion
of the mans brain was lost by the
dreadful occurrence. He had remained
rational up to the time of the dispatch.
The most serious impediment in the way
of his recovery is the jagged hole left in
his head, which will doubtless be
extremely difficult to successfully
provide for. The class in science at the
State university has become interested in
the case and requested detailed
particulars.

QUEER HALLUCINATION OF
CRAZY THURBERITE
Imagines Himself Owner of Millions
Of Dollars
Constable Charley Love brought Winsel
Stefanko here a few days ago to be tried
for lunacy.
The demented man is a miner who has
worked in the mines at Thurber about
two years. Symptoms of insanity have
only recently appeared.
It is said that he labors under the
hallucination that he is a multi-millionare
and that he has several million dollars on
deposit at the banks.
When arrested by Mr. Love, it is
reported that Steffanko was making
arrangements to go tc ashington city,
where he imagined he was under
engagement to marry a daughter of
President Taft. The deluded man had
never become violent or dangerous, but
as he appeared to be gradually growing
worse, it was thought best to detain him.
