County unit of the American
Cancer Society met Monday.
March 27. at the home of Mr
and Mrs Roy Meinecke in
Bellville, where an interesting
meeting was held.
LeRoy Grebe, public infor-
mation chairman with the
county unit, reported he had
presented six programs to 170
people in this county, and
distributed literature Educa-
tional films are available on
request from him.
Mrs. B. J Coufal, crusade
chairman, reported that the
business drive was scheduled to
start March 28, and announced
E. A Williamson, president of
the Sealy AARP chapter, as
chairman in Sealy. Louis Vacek
is Bellville business chairman.
The annual house to house
drive starts next Tuesday, April
4, and will close on April 28.
Austin County Judge John R
Mikeska was asked to sign a
proclamation designating April
as Cancer Control month in
Austin County. Mrs Margie
Nowak with the State Depart
ment of Health is available to
Stephen F. Austin at San
Felipe Park is under construc-
tion. The foundation ground
was broken the first of the week
for the concrete base which will
support the granite base 10x16
feet and six feet high. This will

assessor-collector, to fill the
vacancy created by the passing
of the former tax man, C.

containing the signature of
both William B. Travis and
James Bowie is now on exhibit
at the Texas Memorial
Museum at Austin.
Lillie Belunek. who has
graduated from Durham's
Business College on February
19, is now employed with the
City of Houston in the Health
