Fabulous... that's the view from the Golden Gate. Linkin,
Oakland and San Francisco, the majestic sight of this famow
bridge has thrilled the hearts of weary travellers, inspiring
with its promise of new opportunity.
Catching the morning sun or the evening twilight, the
Golden Gate whispers its own welcome to those who near its
watch. "Welcome to my beautiful city," or "Come again, old
friend," it sighs. It seems to know and understand the prob-
lems of each human heart, and like a true friend, it is always
there for all to share its strength and beauty.
There is another bridge of inspiration and truth when
burdens may be lightened and courage renewed. People
everywhere have drawn from its stabilizing influence, and
you, too, will always be welcome within the fellowship of the
Church. Find out for yourself this week.

Six Weeks Study
Program Begins
Monday at ICC Center
For six Mondays beginning
October 9. a six-week study
program is being offered at the
Sealy LC.C. Center to discover
what today's theologians are
saying about the sacraments, I
and to discover how this I
understanding might have a I
practical application in one's I
daily Christian living. I
Session I on October 9 I
considered what the sacra- I
ments are and what they are I
not. why people worship, the a
importances of words, signs |
and symbols in liturgy, in the I
Catholic Church. I
Session 2 on October 16 will I
deal with the sacraments of I
baptism and confirmation, the I
historical development of each, I
what they meant to the real I
Christian Church, what they I
mean to most people today, and I
what the new rite of adult
initiation is all about.
On October 23 the Eucharist
will be the subject of the
session. Again the lesson will
trace the historical develop-
ment of the sacrament as well
as discuss what happens at
mass and what should happen
after mass.
T he sacrament of Penance or
Reconciliation will be the topic
of the November 6 session
which necessarily involves a
discussion of sin. what it does
to the individual and what it
does to the community.
Session 5 on November 13
will continue the discussion of
the previous class, plus an
examination of the moral
development of children; how
they perceive right from wrong,
and how they can be led to the
freedom found in Christ Jesus.
The final session on
November 20 will be concerned
with parenting, with the
responsibility of parents as the
primary religious educators of
their children; prayer and
celebration in the home and
discipline. ,
T he speaker is Sister Sarah
Snvder. O.P. a Dominican
Sister, who received her M.A.
in religion from the Southern
California School of Theology
at Claremont.
Her educational background
includes graduate work in
religious studies at St. Mary's
College. New Orleans. and the
University of Notre Dame in
Indiana.
She has taught various
subjects on junior and senior
.high school level, has served as
director of religious education,

Sunday school, 10:00 a.m.; services at

Wednesday of the month. Christian
Science Society 114 Hilburn, Bellville,
Texaa.
The Christian Science Con
gregation in Bellville is
sponsoring a free public lecture
on October 16th. I
Members of the Christian
Science Society. Bellville have
asked Jessica Pickett of
Chicago, a member of the
Denomination's Board of
Lectureship, to speak in the
church edifice at 114 Hilburn
in Bellville this coming
Monday at 8:15 p.m. The
location is approximately four
blocks south of the county
courthouse.
Advance materials point out
that an important aspect of
Christian Science is the belief
that God's power can be
brought to bear practically in
each person's day-to-day life,
including the healing of
disease. Miss Pickett's talk,
called "Individualizing God's
Power," hinges on this point
The lecturer has been a
Christian Science practitioner
for more than 20 years. As
such, she joins Christian
Science Practitioners around
the world who rely on Grid’s
Power alone for the healing of
those who seek their help
through prayer.
Speaking of her early
womanhood, Miss Pickett
recalls, "As I look back, I
realize that I belived in God.
but I hadn't yet learned to
individualize the infinite power
of God. Spirit. But, we're never
too young nor too old to learn
to individualize the spiritual
power Jesus demonstrated”
"Christ Jesus/ she adds,
"was the most powerful man
that ever lived because he relied
so faithfully on divine power.
The power of God is just as
available today as,itiwas then
Jesus demonstrated how to use
it It's up to us to use it too. It's
our individualizing the power
of Spirit that makes the
difference between a passive
Christian and a truly practicing
Christian/
A portion of Miss Pickett's
lecture is devoted to the role of
gratitude in prayer. She states.
"One of the most spontaneous
ways we individualzie the
infinite power of God in our
lives is through gratitude.
Gratitude in its highest sense
acknowledges divine law. the
supreme. Absolute Power of
God/
Mrs. Carole Ames of
Houston and Sealy will
introduce Miss Picket. Care
will be provided for children
too young to attend the lecture.
