Haddock, 68, of Rusk will be
at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 19,
at the First Congregational
Methodist Church in Rusk
with Rev. Dr. Gary Fitzgerald,
Rev. Robert Newton and Ray-
mond Ross
Vermillion
officiating.
Burial will be
in Cedar Hill
Cemetery.
Mr. Had-
dock died
June 14 at
his residence.
He was born Aug. 21, 1941,
in El Campo. He was a Rusk
resident for 27 years, a mem-
ber of First Congregational
Methodist Church in Rusk,
Rusk Euclid Masonic Lodge
#45 A.F.A.M., Cherokee Civic
Theatre and Outstanding
Young Men of America. He
was instrumental in the first
DARE program in Rusk and
was the first DARE Officer
for Cherokee County. Mr.
Haddock retired in 1983 after
20 years as a Marine pilot.
He also retired in 2004 from
Cherokee County Sheriff s De-
partment as a deputy sheriff
after 17 years of service. He
graduated from El Campo
High School, Wharton County
Junior College, received his
BS degree from Stephen F.
Austin State University and
received his MBA from the
University of Arkansas. Mr.
Haddock served in the United
States Marine Corp and
served in the Vietnam War.
He entered the Marines at
El Campo Aug. 18, 1963, and
was discharged as a major
from Millington, Tenn., Oct.
31,1983. He married Patricia
Echols, Dec. 25, 1963.
He was preceded in death
by his father. Art Haddock.
He is survived by his wife of
46 years, Patricia Haddock
of Rusk; daughter and son-
in-law, Adrienne and Bobby
White of Katy; son, Bryan
Haddock of Rusk: two grand-
daughters, Gabrielle White
and Brenna White both of
Katy; mother, Doris Haddock
of Austin; sister, Nancy Meiss-
ner of Austin; and many other
relatives and friends.
Nephews served as pallbear-
ers. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday
at Wallace-Thompson Fu-
neral Home.
If desired, memorials may
be made to First Congrega-
tional Methodist Church in
Rusk and the DARE, Drug
Abuse Resistance Education
at the Cherokee County Sher-
iffs Department.
Funeral for William (Bill) Redford Sr., 89,
of Jacksonville, was at 2 p.m. Sunday at
Autry Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ken
McEachern officiating. Burial was in Jarratt
Cemetery, Jacksonville.
Mr. Redford died June 10. He was born
Aug. 28, 1920 in Toole to Jim and Alice Mae
Redford.
Mr. Redford served with the 28th Division,
229th Battalion in the U. S. Army during
World War II. He went in on Normandy Beach
on D-Day June 6, 1944, and participated in
the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member
and Sunday school teacher at Beall Chapel
Baptist Church, Jacksonville. Heretiredfrom
Ivroger's Distribution Center after 35 years of
service and worked for Jacksonville School
Food Service for seven years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Net-

Funeral for Eva Sides Batton, 92, of Jackson-
ville, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10,
at Autry Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Hank
Chandler officiating.
Burial was in the Pierce's Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Batton died June 7. She was born March
5. 1918, in Jacksonville. She was a member of
Pierce's Chapel United Methodist Church and
was aretdredretail sales clerk. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Donnie Batton; and
son, Michael Neál Batton.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law,
Danny and June Batton of Jacksonville; two
daughters, Bettye Sue Sustaire and Nancy

Survivors include his wife,

and Jakob Pegues of Dialville;
a brother. Tyler Dean of Jack-
sonville; and sister. Choline
Rae Dean of Jacksonville.

dy Duffield Jr., Shawn Jones.

Graveside service for AdaMaxine F elder, 81,
of Houston will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June
17 at the Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Felder died Sunday in
Houston.
She was born in Alto,
where she met her childhood
sweetheart and husband of 59
years, Joe Kenneth Felder. She
graduated from Sam Houston
University with a masters
degree in Enghsh in 1951 and
immediately \\ efit to work as a teacher for the

Beatrice Russell, she married
Venice D. (Al) Alford of Jack-
sonville. She worked most of
her professional life as the sec-
retary for the district manager
at American Airlines.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Venice D. (Al) Alford; her
daughter, Leslie Ann Alford;
son and daughter-in-law, Ste-
ven and Becky Alford; grand-
children, Rubin and Sydni
Alford, all of Jacksonville.

Funeral for Victor E. Bernholtz Jr., 89,
of Troup, was at 11 a.m. Saturday at Autry
Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Bob Laird
officiating.
Mr. Bernholtz died June 8. He was born
July 16, 1920, inSpirit Lake, Iowa. He served
in the U. S. Navy during World War II, was
a 32nd degree Mason, member of Zagazig
Shrine, member of Whitehouse Methodist
Church and was a retired engineer with Bell
Telephone.
He wasprecededin death by two grandsons,
Eric Bernholtz and Trey Bernholtz; and two
sisters, Bonie Lou Ridgeway and Marjorie
Ruskite participates in special
World War II remembrance
Local WW II Veteran Wil-
liam Eckel was recently
invited to attend a program
for the June 4,1942 Battle of
Midway.
The program was held
on board the Aircraft Car-
rier USS George H.W. Bush
docked at the Naval Base in
Norfolk, Va.
The ceremony took place
on the flight deck with the
Rusk 1st Baptist Church

July 4th program
The sanctuary choir of the First
Baptist Church will present Homeland,
a patriotic musical at 2 p.m. Sunday,
July 4.
The program will be presented as
a gift to the Rusk area.
The church is located at 372 E. 4th
St. in Rusk.

Archery company moves
to new location
Bob Lee Archery has moved from
its former location on Loop 456 to
new facilities at 1483 U.S. Highway
175 W. The new location includes a
newer, more energy efficient 4,000
square foot building along with more
acreage.
Three or four additional employees
will be added after the move.
Senior Activity Center
events scheduled
Domino, Chicken Foot, 42 and
Mexican Train tournaments will be
sponsored from 9 a.m. to noon every
Monday and Wednesday at the Ross
Senior Activity Center, located in the
Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St.
All area domino fans are welcome.
Refreshments will be served.
Scrapbooking classes and other
paper crafts will be held from 10 a.m.
to noon every Thursday.

there was an article that a new
destroyer was christened in
Bath, Maine to be named after
Adm. Raymond Spruance who
commanded the Naval Group
that sank four Japanese carri-
ers at the Battle of Midway.
SFA honor students named
The following students have been
named to the President's Honor Roll
at Stephen F. Austin State University
for the spring semester:
Brenda Guyton of Crockett, major-
ing in communication studies; and Jill
Hudnall of Rusk, fashion merchan-
dising. To be eligible for this honor,
a student must be enrolled in 12 or
more semester hours and maintain a
grade-point average of 4.0
Orientation planned at
Jacksonville College
Jacksonville College Freshmen
Orientation is planned for June 25.
Prospective students will be shown
around the campus.
Advisors will work with them to
plan class schedules and register for
those classes.
Officers from financial aid and
admissions will be on hand to answer
any questions regarding the applica-
tion process for receiving grants and
scholarships. Auditions for music and
theater scholarships will be available
for $5,000 plus awards.

of Sugar Land, John Marcus and Ivim Felder
of Houston; three grandchildren, Rimberly
Jo Felder, Faith Ehzabeth Ellis and William
Joseph Felder.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-lp.m. Thurs-
day, at O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.
