WHAT TEXAS WANTS
According to the Dallas News, what Texas wants
is “quicker justice, surer justice and amplier justice.”
What Texas wants is one law for all, justice for all,
whether white or black or red or yellow; a fair trial
by a jury of his peers in the court house for a person
accused of crime.
A' person accused of crime is presumed to be innoc-
ent until he has been convicted by jury of his peers. He
is not presumed to be guilty until he has established his
innocence to the full satisfaction of a jury.of his peers.
Mere accusation isn't evidence; an indictment is not an
admission of guilt.
Texas needs now and every high minded, sound
thinking, courageous and thoroughly educated men as
judges of high and low degree. A political judge, a.
judge who will be swayed by public opinion, is the
poorest excuse for a judge that can be found under the
skies of any civilized comtry.
A judge who is controlled or dominated by selfish
purposes or ulterior motives, would be unfit to he a
justice of peace in a camp of primitive pioneers, “where
the laws of the Pecos is t^^^of^hc land."
There is lot of bunktalkdand written concern-
ing “quicker justice, surer justice and amplier justice."
What about thefjurors? They are the men who turn
loose men aecused of erime ahd permit them to go
their way. They are the men who are largely respon-
sible for the miscarriage of justice.
If it were not for the higher courts of America,
there would be mob rule in many states and com-
mittees and the law of the jungle and not the law of
civilization would be uppermost.
Rei Crou Ambuluna
ruption and disho|‘sty in public office should be
destroyed. He won the election and was robbed of the
ncy. .
His words are as true today as they were in 1876.
Corruption and dishonesty in public office, in every
state where corruption and dishonesty in office exist,
should be destroyed and the men who dare to lead
should receive the suffrages of the men and women
who believes in high standards of government and high
Ideals in and out of public office.
