Here is what is shown by the monthly weather review annual,
published by the United States Department of Agriculture. It is
a glance at various parts of the United States for a contrast between

And this table does not state the Northeastern Panhandle
favorably enough. Seventeen miles—and only seventeen miles—is
the average wind velocity in Northeastern Panhandle Country.
Compare the 226 clear days out of a possible 365, in this section,
with four big cities chosen in different parts of the country for
fairness in making a comparison.
1 he rainfall is reliable. No crop has ever been lost because of
lack of rain. Below we give a statement as taken from the U. S.
Weather Observer at Amarillo:
Rainfall at Gage, Oklahoma, 24 Miles From Higgins, Texas.
1904................... 24.76 inches
1905................................................25.35 inches
1906............................... ....27.11 inches
1907.......... 31.70 inches
More than three-fourths of this falls in the growing season.
Nearly twice as much light, brightness and sunshine in every
instance. More than twice as much as in Chicago, a city which
boasts of its health statistics and low mortality rate.
On the other hand, compare the sixty-nine cloudy days with the
four cities in the table—only about half as many* cloudy days.
Then note the maximum of wind velocity and the total move-
ment in miles—less wind here than in four big cities.
No extremes of heat and cold. Twice as many clear days. Half
as many cloudy days Less wind than in the Middle West.
Do you wonder that people are coming to live in such a coun-
try?
