In the late 1960‘s Texas Power & Light Company be-
gan reducing its dependence on natural gas and oil by
planning and constructing generating plants that use
lignite coal as fuel. Lignite is cheaper than gas or oil
and It's readily available right here In Texas.
Today, TP&L has eight lignite-fueled generating units
in operation and others are under construction.
For TP&L customers, this means that oven though the

Of course, the best place
to start in preventing bo-
tulism poisoning is in proper
home canning methods.
You must use a steam
pressure canner to process
low-acid vegetables and
meats, and the canner must
reach at least 10 pounds
pressure (240 degrees F.)
and hold that pressure for an
appropriate time-depending
on the type of food, site of
jar and other added ingre-
dients.
No other way is safe, since
no other method reaches
temperatures that high.
Carefully read the direc-
tions that accompany your
canning equipment, and be
sure to follow high standards
of sanitation during the can-
ning process.
Mainly, use the correct
equipment and specifically
follow the directions for pro-
ducts you are processing.

In fifteen days this great country is going
to celebrate its 204th birthday and already the
towns of Burleson and Cleburne have announced
plans for a big celebration on that day consisting
of parades, city-wide picnics and many other
activities which include the fireworks displays
at night. In a way it is a shame that Grandview
does not have a civic organization to sponsor
such a holiday here. Wiat better way to spend
the 4th than by visiting with old friends, en-
joying games, good food and even maybe a
• cold soda pop.

Thank you Joyce Brannon!
During the past 11 years of being a working wife and
mother of three, Joyce and her husband Carlos have been
foster parents to over 30 children. When asked why she
opened her home, Joyce replied, "It's so contagious and
exciting. When they call and I think of a child without a
place to go, I can't say no." The Brannorfs own three chil-
dren are working in fields of mental retardation, nursing
and education.
Johnson County Memorial Hospitel is proud of Joyce Brennon’s
comtribution to our community.
