state’s most jarring upsets by nos-
ing out the highly-favored Corpus
Christi team 7-8 for the District 15
title. It erased Corpus Christi from
the unbeaten, untied list Robstown
meeta Mission, which won over Ban
Woodrow Wilson (Dallas). Long-
view, Lufkin, Thomas Jefferson
(San Antonio). Conroe. Robstown
and Mission were safely under the
wire, but ties existed in the turbu-
lent oil belt and the Central. Tin-
as district and a rule against use
of 12th graders stood between Port
Arthur and Beaumont in District
14.
Amarillo, seeking its fourth
straight state championship, de-
feated Lubbock 14-8 yesterday to
take the Panhandle title and pair
with Vernon, which clinched Dis-
trict 2 honors with a 7-6 win over
Electra. in the first round.
San Angelo upset the hitherto un-
defeated. untied Abilene Eagles.
12-7, to throw the oil belt race into
a tie between Abilene and Stephen-
ville, which downed Ranger 39-7.
Austin remained one of the unde-
feated teams by downing El Paso
high 14-0 for the District 4 crown.
Sherman played a 8-8 tie with
Gainesville to take the District 5
title and will meet Highland Park,
which clinched District 6 by smash-
ing Greenville 38-0, in the first
round. Gainesville had previously
been tied by Denison but Sherman
was undefeated in conference play.
North Side became Woodrow Wil-
son’s bi-district opponent by down-
ing Paschal for the Fort Worth ti-
tle Woodrow Wilson had clinched
the Dallas crown last week.

Longview’s Loboes. favored to
reach the state finals, battered the
hapless Gladewater Bears 57-13 to

liant Thanksgiving Day skirmish
that saw Texas A & M beat down

after a drowsy first half and almost

minutes provided the breaks that
beat Texas.

gave the Aggies their scoring op-
portunity. Wallace Lawson, Texas
fullback, juggled an attempted shov-
