Missing out on the Spring
fishing is JOE SMITH, retired
United Gas manager. SMITH is
running Buck’s Shoe and Sad-
dle Shop while MR. and MRS.
BUCK SINCLAIR are in Cali-
fornia. They are visiting their
daughter who will return home
with them for a visit.
JIM HOGG’S bath tub has
been found. Texas’ biggest gov-
ernor, 6 feet 3 inches tall and
weighing 300 pounds, it seems
that he had to have a special
bath tub installed in the gov-
ernor’s manison. It was 7 feet
8 inches long and 3 feet 8
inches wide.
The tub will be put in an
Austin museum as soon as the
museum expands its building.
JIM HOGG also had big
feet, and his giant shoes were
a subject of conversation all
over Texas. Sam Houston’s son
once complained that Texas
thinks more of Jim Hogg’s old
shoes than it does of the mem-
ory of my father.
People in Quitman are doing
something about their need for
youth recreation facilities. A
campaign is now underway to
build a swimming pool, and it
will be a large pool, over 80
feet long.

Another delay in the county
lake suit appears almost un-
avoidable. Judge MATT DAVIS
is reported to have suffered a
heart attack. There are three
members on the court. Judge T
C. CHADICK formerly of Quit-
man, disqualified himself, leav-
ing just two judges. With Judge
DAVIS ill. it may be some time
before any decision is rendered.

TAYLOR. He has ordered six
trees which have been shipped
from Portland, Ore. Cherry
trees will be a new fruit tree
for this area, and they are also
bringing with them a bad name.
Shippers of the trees wrote
TAYLOR saying that it is neces-
sary to have a pollenizer tree,
hence he is shipping one so
•ailed “Black Republican” which
he hopes will not grate on the
Texas Democratic tendencies.
Trees besides the Black Re-
publican which TAYLOR has
ordered are the Lambert, Royal
Ann and Bing.
The Lambert is a pioneer and
came from the east in a covered
wagon. It often received water
when the wagon train people
went without. The Bing was
crossed and developed by a
Chinaman named Bing who
worked among the trees and
loved them.
The Lambert is a large dull
red cherry; the Royal Ann is a
large bright red cherry and a
little sourish making it excellent
for pies; the Bing is a dark
large cherry so big that some-
times it has to be sliced.
