gional Hospital and
Janis Bruno for Smith-
ville Community Clinic.
The City of Smithville
was showcased during
the day. The class
boarded the Smithville
tour train and Bruce
Blalock served as tour
guide, taking the class
on an imaginary tour of
downtown Smithville as
it would have been in

the B.E.S.T. Leader-
ship Class provided
insights to organiza-
tional responsibilities
of nonprofits and to
healthcare services in
the county.
The morning pre-
senter, Barry Lovelace
with Texas Association
of Nonprofit Organiza-
tions (TANO), provided
an overview on types
of nonprofits, steps
needed to establish a
nonprofit organization
and legal responsibil-
ities of nonprofit or-
ganizations. Bastrop
County has more than
200 nonprofit organi-
zations throughout the
county. Many of the
class members work for
or with nonprofits. The
presentation was infor-
mative as well as rein-

wide B.E.S.T. lead-
ership program. The
purpose of the program
is to develop motivated,
skilled and effective
leaders who will con-
tribute to the future
growth and direction of
Bastrop County.
