But Cedar Park will reload with quarterback
Mak Sexton returning to lead the offense,
along with several options at receiver.
The “Black Rain” defense will again be a
force to reckon with, anchored by linebackers
Jackson Buckingham and Keegan Nichols.
Fitzhugh will be leaned on to provide some
offensive power.
Cedar Park
The Timberwolves are still the team to beat in
this district, although last season ended earlier
than anticipated, with Cedar Park getting ousted
in the regional semifinals against Manvel.
East View
The Patriots offensive will continue to be
explosive with the return of not one, but two
running backs who rushed for more than
1,000 yards each in Torrie Davis and Zion
Hester.
Both players will be counted on to produce
yards as new quarterback Jackson Coulson
finds his way in the offense this season.
2016 Record: 3-7,3-5
Players to Watch: WR DeClayvin Sim-
mons, LB Ethan Owen, DB Tyron McFar-
lane, DL Kendal Johnson
Key game: Bastrop—Dubbed the Southside
BBQ Bowl, the rivals will face off for the
trophy and county bragging rights after the
Wildcats won the first matchup in a close
game last year.
Elgin
The Wildcats will begin a new era under
new head coach Jens Anderson, who takes
over after serving as offensive coordinator at
George Ranch High School last season.
Elgin will look to returners DeClayvin Sim-
mons, Ethan Owens, and Tyron McFarlane as
Ben Langford takes over at quarterback. Jace
Grady and Michael Joseph are expected to
contribute to Elgin’s success this season in a
tough district.
