on Fullback Jim Lewis of San

made it all the way to the state
semifinals last season, and Lewis
was one of the reasons why.

most observers say Lewis was the
key man on the team. His sav-
age blocking broke the halfback

Cuba, 5-9, 165, was a halfbaci
for Thorndale who has fielded
some relatively good teams in re-
cent years. Thorndale, of course,
is the home of Texas A & M
Halfback Leroy Caffey-
Berry, a husky 5-10, 185-pound
guard, was voted the most yalu-
able lineman in Central Texas
last season.
The Buccaneers are hurting
mostly for guards and lineback-
ers, and Berry could play a pro-
minent part in the Bucs success
this year.
The two All-Staters headed for
Blinn are Gilbert Smith of New
Waverly (near Huntsville), and
David Hajovsky of La Grange.
Smith, who stands 5-10, and
weighs 165, played in the 8-man
All-Star football game this past
summer.
