mmThe following is a resume of .
ployment of Richard D. Goebel at
the bank’s Sealy location. Goebel
is a native of Sealy and graduated
from Sealy High School in 1980.
He attended Blinn College in
Brenham and received his asso-
ciate of arts degree in May of
1982. In December of 1984 Goe-
bel received his BBA degree in
finance at Sam Houston State
University.
Goebel began his banking ca-
reer with Brazos Bank in Hunts-
ville. In April of 1985 he entered a
management training program
with Lamar Savings in Bryan.
Since April of 1986 Goebel has
been a real estate loan officer at a
local lending institution.
Plans are to have Goebel man-
age the Sealy location of Austin
County State Bank after he com-
pletes his training in the commer-
cial lending operations. "With
the employment of Goebel, this is
another one of our commitments
to the Sealy area!’ stated Mikeska

Westworld Community Health-
care, Inc., parent corporation of
the Sealy Hospital, announced
last week that it had filed
petitions for chapter 11 of the
Federal bankruptcy court in
Santa Ana, California, due to
heavy financial losses. This
included all of its subsidiaries.
The company’s banks had
advised Westworld that they
would not provide debtor in-
possession financing for ongoing
operations. The communication
from Westworld advised that if
alternative financing could not be
arranged, the health care system
would dose.
Brazos Valley Hospital was one
of five facilities which were
designated for continued opera-
tions if financing could be secured
or a purchaser was found. The
others were at New Boston,
Texas, Kingsbury and Needles,
California and the Intercept
substance abuse treatment pro-
gram in Riverside, California.
Brazos Valley Hospital has
been showing a profit in its opera-
tions, primarily because of the In-
tercept program. The local ad-
ministration and

Houston Galveston Area
Council (HGAC) in fiscal year
1987 let only a four month
contract to HOA, essentially
signifying that HOA was on pro-
bation with this funding source.
Recently, the HGAC staff
recommended removal of the
local senior citizen organization
from probationary status and
awarded it with a full year con-
tract approved by the HGAC
board.
HOA has been asked to submit
a two year budget and has met
with HGAC representatives to
discuss fiscal year 1988 funds, an
estimated $59,620.
Terry Fontenot, hospital ad-
ministrator, in a telephone con-
versation with Fred Brigman,
officer of Westworld acute care
hospitals, which was heard by
board members and administra-
tive staff, sought answers to
questions to reach better
understanding of the situation.
Questions were posed in regard to
the status of the Sealy clinic,
which was owned by Westworld,
and the position of Dr. Frank
Smith and Dr. Steve Smith. This
facility was likewise scheduled to
close as of Wednesday.
It was fully understood by all
present that if an interim operator
could not be located by Wednes-
day, the Sealy Hospital would be
locked by federal bankruptcy
authorities.
“Future and United Health
care operators of Georgia and
Starr Medical of Houston showed
interest in interim operations and
in making proposals for pur-
chase!’ said Fontenot.
Local measures were sought
Monday and Tuesday and every
possible avenue of salvation was
followed.
No patients were admitted all
this week, and no emergency
service was available.

history, the annual event will not
be held at Firemen’s Park where it
originated 53 years ago.
Activities at the KC Hall will
begin at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow,
July 17, with serving of
barbecued chicken and sausage
plates. Music on the grounds will
be provided by a one man humor
band, and concessions will be in
full operation, throughout the
frolic hours. The Firemen’s ladies
auxiliary will sell sweets and
pastries and will hold a cake walk.
Hamburgers will be sold
throughout the night.
The annual beauty pageant to
name a new Miss Frolic will begin
shortly after 7:00 p.m. Robin
Meyer, last year’s winner, will be
on hand to relinquish her title. An
auction sale will follow. Among
auction items will be a 1950 GMC
and a 1957 Chevrolet pumper.
The dance with the Emotions will
begin at 9:00 p.m. and continue

This is the volunteer fire
department’s only fund raising
event. In years past if has
sustained the volunteer organiza-
tion in its needs. However, with a
drop in net proceeds in the more
recent years, and the high cost of
equipment to maintain an
efficient fire fighting service, it is
important that support is received
from the community. Cleo
Schneider, fire chief, said that
some of the equipment will have
to be replaced in due time, and
funds will be needed.
