large crowd of people, including
members of the New Mexico Board
of Regents, state senators and rep-
resentatives, was here Thursday af-
ternoon for the laying of the cor-
nerstone of the new $75,000 normal
school building.
F. B. Sowell, secretary of the Por-
tales Chamber of Commerce, pre-
sided over the meeting as master
of ceremonies.
School was dismissed for the after-
noon add the Portalee high school
band, which won second in the
Christmas pageant at Amarillo, fur-

maintain a legislative bureau at the
next sesalon of the state legislature.
The bureau will work ehiefiy fur a
bill regulating public utilities. Head-
quarters for the municipal “tabby"
will be ia the Driskell Hotel.

H. Painter of Houston, Harvey W.
Draper of Houston and J. Bouldin
Rector of Austin.
Already data on public utilities
have been obtained from every utility
commission in the United States.
The League ef Texas Municipali-
ties, under whose direction the legis-
lative Bureau will be maintained
throughout the session, has 140 dty-
members. They include Abilene,
Amarillo, Austin, Beaumont, Brecken-
ridge, Brenham, Center, Corpus
Christi, Dalles, Del Rie, Eastland, K1
Paso, Fort Worth, Gainesville, Gal-
veston, Georgetown, Gonzales, Goose
Creek, Houston, Jefferson, Marshall,
Mexia, Midland, Orange, Paris, Port
Arthur, San Angelo, San Antonio,
San Benito, Sweetwater, Taylor, Tex-
