With Mr. Pryor declining to become a candidate,
we hope to see his friends settle on the next avail-
able candidate, Hon. R. V. Davidson, our present
efficient attorney general.

Mr. Pryor says that he appreciates deeply the
friendship of those who are so anxious for him to
become a candidate for governor but he feels that
he cannot afford to make the race.

Some newspapers throughout the district have
recently published articles, stating that Hon. A. M.
Turney would not again be a candidate for repre-
sentative to the legislature. Upon being questioned
in regard to the matter, Mr. Turney stated to the
writer that the reports above referred to were with-
out his authority and furthermore, he expected to
again be a candidate for legislative honors. The
Avalanche is glad to hear this as Mr. Turney has
represented the district with credit to both himself
and his constituency and with so many important
matters coming up at the next session, we could ill
afford to loose his services.

horrible disclosures made by-the penitentiary in-

matter before the people.

If Railroad Commissioner Colquitt would give
more of his time, which is paid for at a high price
by the people of Texas, to his official duties and
less to his futile candidacy for governor, some of
the glaring evils that now exist in his department
might be remedied.

One of the most important steps to control an

have passed an ordinance providing for a fare of 3
cents on all lines in the city for passengers who are
not furnished with seats. The object of the ordi-

ing passengers to stand and hang to the straps
while traveling about the city. And just here the

l hink of it, good people ! Incorporation would
lead to. a reduction of your fire insurance more than
one half; would be a big step toward civic beauty;
would be the means of ridding the city of a most
disgusting and demoralizing nuisance—the donkey,
and last but not least, would enable us to enforce
sanitary measures which are so very essential in

I hat there is good profit in apple raising has
been abundantly proven by the ranchmen and far-

is going to become stiil more profitable as all the
farmers and land owners come to realize what a
fortune they have that onfy needs developing. And
