The District 5-AAAA girls’ basketball opener matching Gaines-
ville and Northwest has been moved to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Tonight’s three boys’ games between Sanger and Gainesville have
been cancelled. They will not be made up.
“We want to try and get Northwest up here and out quickly on
Saturday because of the weather,” said Gainesville athletic director
Skip Rigsby.
The girls’ junior varsity game has also been cancelled. The
decision on the games was made Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Leopards converted
just nine of its 52 field goal attempts
against the Tigerettes, that per-
formance coming one week after a
38 percent effort in Muenster.

Bill Marolt said he would not be
surprised if SMU offered the
job to McCartney.
Single will not comment con-
cerning any of the interviews
he has had with prospective
coaches.
Reports indicate that he met
earlier this week with fired
Ohio State coach Earle Bruce.
There was speculation that he
had also discussed the vacancy
with Green Bay Packers coach
Forrest Gregg, but Gregg has
indicated that his meeting with
single and SMU president A.
Kenneth Pye did not constitute
a job interview.
Other candidates include
L.D. Bell High School coach
Tim Edwards and former Ka-
nsas City Chiefs head coach
and former Dallas Cowboys
assistant John Mackovic.
The action suspended the
1987 season at the Southwest
Conference school and placed
severe limits on the school for
the 1988 season. SMU sub-
sequently decided not to play
football in 1988 and will resume
the sport in 1989.
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas
Cowboys quarterback Danny White
says he is not certain he will return
for the 1988 season, The San Antonio
Light reported today.
White told the newspaper that
despite finding out earlier this week
that he will not require surgery on
his right wrist, he is not certain he
will return.
White said the possibility still ex-
ists that he will retire before the
start of next year, which would be
his 13th in a Cowboys uniform.
"‘Retiring is always a possi-
bility,” White said. “I haven’t de-
cided whether I’m going to play
next year.”
White said he will probably know
whether he will keep playing or not
by the Cowboys’ mini-camp in
March, although he said he may not
have a definite decision even by
then.
“But I’d like to make a decision
by then,” White said.
But White said whether he re-
turns or not will not be determined
on how his wrist heals during the
off-season. He said he is comfort-
DALLAS (AP) — Colorado
football coach Bill McCartney
says he has been interviewed
by Southern Methodist Univer-
sity athletic director Doug
Single about the SMU football
coachvacancy.
McCartney, 48, returned to
Denver Thursday following the
interview.
“I visited with the proper
authorities at SMU and was
able to get an idea of the di-
rection their program will take
and the facilities that are
available there,” McCartney
told the Dallas Times Herald.
“There haven’t been any de-
cisions made.”
“I came back here and I want
to talk to the people at
Colorado,” he added. “I’d just
as soon say nothing because the
appropriate thing to do before
making any comments about
the situation is meet with
people at CU.”
“They (SMU) are still in the
(interview) process, but I
under they will conclude inter-
views (today),” McCartney
said.

If he does decide to retire, White
said it will be because the strain of
being the Cowboys quarterback is
too much on himself and his family.
He is tired of the criticism he has
received in recent years as the
Cowboys have faded from their
once-high position in the NFL
echelon, he said.

Ro's injury
worse than
anticipated
DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas
Mavericks intially feared that
Rolando Blackman would be
sidelined for two weeks with a
knee sprain, but now the All-
Star guard says he’ll be out a
minimum of three to four
weeks.
“I can’t say exactly how long
it will be. But it’s going to be
longer than what people (with
the Mavericks) have been say-
ing,” Blackman said after
undergoing a second round of
treatment since injuring his
knee Monday.
Mavericks coach John
MacLeod said he hoped the
team physician Pat Evans’
prognosis for Blackman would
hold up, but said that Blackman
would have the final say.
Team physician Evans had
said earlier that Blackman
would be out from two to three
weeks and miss a minimum of .
five games. Blackman would
miss 15 games if sidelined for .
