secretary of health, education and
welfare and Ezra Benson, secre-
tary of agriculture.

conjunction with the convention
were attended, along with a busi-
ness meeting where the by-laws
were discussed and several
changed. The trio were taken on
tours of the Swift Company
plant and stockyards.
A special train which left Fort
Worth carried Texas boys to Kan-
sas City.
On the return trip, Buck, Bain
and Peters visited the state fair
Friday night and Saturday, leav-
ing that night for Brenham.
Representatives from the 48
states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico
attended the convention.

Talley was coming into Wash-
ington County. He was located
at a house near Old Washington
by Walter Henze, constable of
precinct one, but when Henze art
rived, the subject was gone. Then
the manhunt began in earnest.
Bloodhounds were sent from
Bryan, but were unable to pteid
up the trail. Then about 7:30 p.
m. Friday, according to officers,

with dogs from Huhtsville. Five

plosions as she was being refitted at the South Boston Naval
Annex. Eight ship’s officers 23 enlisted men and four
civilians died and another 40 men were seriously injured in

A manhunt that began at 9 o’clock Friday morning cul-
minated with the capture at 2:30 a. nr. Saturday of a negro
man wanted on a burglarly and theft warrant from Harris
county and a forfeiture of bond in Grimes County.
Lawrence Talley, 40, was taken into custody by Wash-
ington and Grimes. Country sheriff’s department deputies
following the day-long search which featured the use of
