QUESTIONS THAT ARE ASKED ABOUT BANKING
Many of our passenger trains
are running faster schedules,
too. Well, one thing is sure. We
make faster runs, but the first
railroad commandment is still
^Safety First.” That’s one rule
"tey- won’t change.
•
Western railroads and al-
lied industries provided
jobs for 750,000 workers
last year. Some of them
live in our town. Good
neighbors.
Passenger fares are now the
lowest in history with substan-
tial reductions on round trips.
And no more surcharge for rid-
ing in sleeping cars.
•
This new Free pick-up-and-de-
livery of less than carload
freight—I heard some travel-
ing salesmen talking about it
on the train yesterday. They
said it saves shippers a lot of
money and centers all respon-
sibility on the railroad. The
railroad picks up the freight at
shipper’s door and delivers to
receiver’s door. Of course, local
delivery men get the haul from
door-to-car and car-to-door at
both ends. The railroad handles ,
the whole transaction.

‘IHIS question can best be answered by an
— illustration. Suppose you receive from
John Jones a check for $10 written on a bank *
in another city. You bring the check to us,
endorse it, and deposit it in your checking
account here.
Your account is Credited with $ro on our -
books. This $io then becomes “uncollected
funds” until we send the check to the bank
on which it was drawn and receive the
money or equivalent credit. You do not have
the money in your account to draw upon
until we collect it, for the money belongs to
John Jones.
