An old landmark went up in
flames in Decatur early Wednesday
morning, when the “Bank Saloon
building at the southeast corner
the public square was destroyed bp
fire. Nightwatchman Gerge Brow:
stated to a Messenger reporter that
about four thirty o’clock he discover-
ed a dense smoke issuing form the
Woodsdale cafe, which occupied the
building, and in Mr. Brown’s opinion
the fire originated near the c glee
era, which stood on a counter on the
east side of the dining room. Brown
immediately turned in the alarm, and
in a short time the fire departmeut
responded, and a «lisasterous confla-
gration could have prevented, say
