Land owners and farmers in Den-
ton Creek bottom bring reports of a
most severe loss resulting from flo.ds
in the creek, saying that the creek in
its midsection and lower reaches in
Wise county has probably been the
highest hi years, ami that the chan-
nel has become so filled and choked
in the upper section with sand and
debris that a minimum amount of
rain as compared with a frmer date
will have rhe effect of putting the
creek on a rampage.
Lee Hall and Merlin Gage have
sustained losses to growing crops and
of valuable seed planted and waiting
to germinate. Mr. Hall says he has
lost enough expensive seed to pay a
considerable portion of his prorut
part of the estimated cost of channel
improvement. He expressed his will-
ingness to resort to any reasonable
amount of expense to insure his farm
land from the repeatee assaults an I
losses of high water.
In one *>f the several recent rises,
K. W. Howard had an entire crop of
alfalfa hay washed away. The gra-s
had been cut ami was laying in the
field to cure when the flods bore it
off to destruction. Sand was also de-
posited on the land where the crop
was growing ami will probably have
the effect of ruining that part of i*.
Ed Fry who was here Monday from
rhe region east of Audub g brought
information of an exist*.nt state of
farm ruin as pertaining to the lan l
along Denton Creek in that upper
stretch, saying that in many places
the formner channel had completely
disappeared and that farming on
many farm had long since been aban-
doned.
Soie of these men are very anx-
ion- to pursue ihe plan of creek im-
provement that has progressed to the
stage of an actual survey made of
one portion with expectations that
surveys will follow of territory n 1
included in the original project. The
state engineer is expected here soon
to make an examination of the re- i
maining portions.
