ATTACKS OF INSECT AND DISEASE
FESTS— Shedding of pecans is frequently
caused by the following pecan nut
casebearer, an insect which bores in at the
base of the nut and hollows it out; Hickory
shuck worm, which leaves a small white
circle on the shuck with a pinpoint black
spot in the center, pecan weevil. which
will cause pecans to shed from its feeding,
usually following a late summer rain;
black pecan aphids, which cause yellow
spots to appear on leaves in late summer,
pecan scab, a fungus disease which can
cause dark spots or lesions to appear on
leaves, twigs and shucks, and mildew, a
fungus causing a powdery white ap-
pearance on the nut shuck
