1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins citizens
3 across the state in mourning the loss of the Honorable Dean Neugent,
4 who died April 1, 2003, at the age of 86; and
5 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
6 Dean Neugent became an accomplished lawyer and served in the Texas
7 House of Representatives for four terms, beginning in 1965; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Neugent was a member of numerous committees
9 during his tenure in the 59th, the 60th, the 61st, and the 62nd
10 sessions of the Texas Legislature; notably, he served on committees
11 overseeing banks and banking, oil, gas, and mining, insurance,
12 revenue and taxation, and congressional and legislative districts;
13 he also served as the chairman of the Public Health Committee during
14 the 61st and 62nd legislative sessions and as vice chairman of the
15 Liquor Regulation Committee during the 60th Legislature; and
16 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman with many interests and
17 hobbies, Dean Neugent was a talented trumpet player, who spent
18 summers as a university student touring with big bands, and he
19 continued to pursue his love of music throughout his life; he is
20 also fondly remembered as a gifted storyteller; and
21 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, Dean
22 Neugent gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
23 warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew24 him; and
