tainments there this past week. A
large crowd met at the Mercury
school house Friday evening for a
community barbecue supper, 11
goata and 16 hens being barbecued
to a perfect turn by several of
the men and salads, cakes and
pies, with coffee, and iced tea pro-
vided and served by the women
made a most satsfactory supper.
Neighbors enjoyed visiting with
each other and the candidates who
were here.
Several from Mercury visited
with friends and relatives at the
all-day picnic and barbecue din-

At Safety Meeting
Ernst Tetens, district manager
of the Empire Southern Gas Com-
pany, spent the latter part of last
week in Minden, La. He presided
at the safety meeting there Thurs-
day. ‘

Reports from Brownwood describe
much damage from hail and tor-
rential rains. Windows, roofs and
neon signs were wrecked and the
florists buildings and plants were
ruined.
Mrs. Jack Dunn and Carol, Abi-
lene, visited Mrs. Tom Dunn and
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Deeds last
