Peggy Simon was honored for all
the work she does as an Elected Of-
ficial as Justice of the Peace with
Katy Gilmore doing the presenta-
tion. It was noted how concerned
Judge Simon is about the school
truancy and drop outs and how she
tries to help all the young people
with problems.
Vera Honig was awarded the Hu-
manitarian plaque for all her efforts
in behalf of others. She has made
and given away many, many quilts.
She also gives freely of her time
and talents to many veteran projects
including hospital visits.
Nettie Ruth Bratton and her hus-
band Morris returned from China
the day of the event and she spoke '
of their trip and some of the differ-
ences noted between the countries
and customs. A young man was
their guide and he spoke of how
proud they must be to be Ameri-
cans. When asked why he thought
this, he explained that for the first
time he could vote between five
candidates for four offices rather
than just four candidates for four
offices. He knew we had many
choices. They all vote eagerly over
The Award Dinner of the High-
land Lakes Chapter of the Demo-
cratic Women was enjoyed by the
many who were able to attend.
From the beautiful decorations done
by Glenda Brumley, Linda Gam-
mage, Lucille Harrison and Sandi
Gilliland to the delicious food,
nothing was lacking. The wine was
donated by the Manigolds of the
Spicewood Winery and the Gam-
mages.
Betty Ann Edgerton presented the
Outstanding Member award to
Joyce Sloan for all the effort, time
and talent she used this past year as
she coordinated the precinct chairs
for the election and used her com-
puter for many communications for
there and it is too bad we take it so
for granted that many of us don't
vote at all.
Beautiful dinner music added to
the occasion played by Deena
Coleman on her electronic piano.
Clara Lou Sawyer was the
Chairman of the committee that
planned and arranged the lovely
event.
