cancer, when the local unit of the
American Cancer Soceity under-
takes its annual house-to-house
fund-raising crusade.
Mrs. Becky Galvan and Ms.
Oralia Hernandez are the project
coordinators.
When visiting local homes, the
unit representatives will be offering • ©
“important information” on cancer
and soliciting support for the fight
against cancer.
“The national emphasis this
year,” Mrs. Galvan says, “is to
make people aware of cancer of the
colon, the number two killer of both
men and women.” Warning signals
include unnatural bleeding and
changes in bowel habits, she adds. • O

The third and fourth grade
students of Immanuel Lutheran
School, under the direction of Mrs.
Ann Frank, sang at the Dorcas
Society meeting Thursday after-
noon.
A prayer service titled “Reach
Out” was led by Mrs. Edgar
Neuhaus, assisted by Mrs. Pauline
Borchelt and Mrs. Lloyd Heggen.
Mrs. Bill Muller, vice-president,
was in charge of the meeting. A
donation was given to Good
Samaritan Home of Cypress.
A light lunch was served, followed
with champagne and wedding cake.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted
by Mr. and Mrs. Johnson in
Arlington. 0)
The bride is a 1980 graduate of
Mercedes High School. She has a
degree from the University of Texas
at Arlington.

Miss Barbara Barnes and
William R. Fretz exchanged
marriage vows February 2 at the
Robert Carr Chapel on the campus
of Texas Christian University in
Fort Worth, in a double-ring
candlelight ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Barnes of Kerrville,
formerly of Mercedes. Mr. and
Mrs. William Fretz of Dallas are
parents of the bridegroom.
The bride wore a floor-length
white gown of pleated tulle, with
soft pleats falling in a graceful
chapel train from the empire waist.
The bodice was re-embroidered
lace, accented by seed pearls, with
full sleeves.
The headdress, chapel-length,
was of English illusion, with a
half-crown of silk flowers and seed
pearls. She wore a necklace of
pearls, a gift from the bridegroom.
The bride carried a bouquet of
phalenopsis orchids, minuette
roses, stephonotis hahnsthy and
baby’s breath.
Mrs. Cynthia Wizorek of
Temple, sister of the bride, served
as matron of honor. Bridesmaid was
Ms. Mary Alice Garcia of Dallas.
Serving as flower girl was Miss
Crissy Wizorek.
Attendants wore rose-colored
silk taffeta dresses and carried
bouquets of plumosa and baby’s
breath.
The church was decorated with a
votive arrangements of white
daffodils, heather, rubrum, carna-
tions and orchids. Candles graced
the foot of the cross.
The bridegroom, wearing a gray
tuxedo, was served by John
Wilkerson of Arlington as best man.
Groomsman was Douglas Fretz of
Dallas, brother of the bridegroom.
Carl Johnson of the “Vocal
Majority” group of Dallas sang
“The Song of Ruth” and “The
Lord’s Prayer.” Emmet Smith, who
is associated with TCU, served as
organist.
The mother of the bride wore
gray, while the bridegroom’s
mother chose a blue gown, and
both wore corsages of gardenias.
A reception at the Woolridge
Clubhouse followed the ceremony.
