Warda 12, Ledbetter 3...
With the pep and aggressiveness
so evident in the Giddings game of
a week ago totally absented in the
team, Ledbetterites abjectly bowed
to Warda 12-3 in a game that failed
to interest the second largest crowd
of the season. Ornie Roensch’s 3rd
inning weakness of four walks and
a hit by Alfred Kunkel accounted
for the locals’ only scoring punch
of 3 runs, and Edwin Roensch took
over to hold the erratic Ledbetter
ites to an unbroken row of goose
eggs on* the board for the rest of
the game. Lorenz who started and
is charged with the loss, came up
to Maass in the 6th, who held Way
da to 2 runs the rest of the game.
Schneider hoisted a brand new
reach ball into the late Rev. John
Harris Estate across the road for
a home run for the first two runs
of the game, scoring Ed. Roensch
ahead of him.
Ledbetterites invade Giddings
next Sunday, August 9, for the
first game of the Lee County Lea-
gue semi-finals with the winner of
the first two out of 3 slated to take
on the winner of the Warda-Lex-
ington series.

Ledbettenites Saturday reached
agreement with Giddings manager,
H .G. McDonald for the Giddings-
Ledbetter series that if the first
game slated for Giddings August
9 is rained out, the stage is moved
to Ledbetter August 16, then back
to Giddings for the 2nd. home
game, each team being awarded
one’home game by League rules,
but if both are rained out, the cy-
cle is repeated. The arrangement

Rummel, who writes the news
that appears regularly in the Star
and occasionally in the News, and
always in the Record and Banner
Press, will be on vacation this week
beginning Friday noon, and will
very regretfully miss the play-off
game in Giddings next Sunday,
August 9, (barring a fortunate
rain), but will be more than ade-
quately replaced in his role of scor-
er in the game, Otto Fick of Lin-
coln having volunteered his servi-
ces as replacement in the Giddings
--- Ledbetter game. Fick, who uses
a system similar to ours, and is
known to be highly skeptical of
hits masquerading under errors,
has full authority to use his own
judgment in the scoring, and is ex-
pected to submit a summary to
Kermit Blume after the game.
Blume will telephone the results
to Gilchrist after the game, Gil-
christ, 22 miles south of Galves-
ton, being the site of the Rummel
family reunion. Rummel expects
to write the baseball news, togeth-
er with, some vacation notes of
his own, to comprise the "Ledbet-
ter News” of the weekend of Aug.
14 - 15, and expects to be back in
time to participate in the reporting
of the Ledbetter - Giddings game
here on August 16.

News from Northrup
r Injures Back . . .
Miss Louise Menzel of Wilson,
Texas informed her uncle and aunt
Mr and Mrs A. H. Weiser that she
is in the hospital there since the
early part of July with an injured
back received in a fall backwards.
A speedy recovery is wished for
her. Also a letter from Mr and

still very dry right in Bishop. High

40 miles per hour. Mrs. Weiser
writes, she wet mops twice a day
in order to keep dust down. Then
still you have to wipe your feet
before going into the bed, the floors
are so gritty. Water as yet has
been sufficient, however.
