DEAR BANKRUPT: Yes, you must support her. She
knows she can’t get blood out of a turnip. But you’re, no
turnip, and maybe she’d rather have blood than nothing.
What does your lawyer say?
CONFIDENTIAL TO "CAN'T GO ON” IN JACKSON-
VILLE: No one ever collasped under the burdens of a single
day. It is when the burdens of tomorrow are added to it that
it becomes unbe arable. Live one day at a time.

DEAR HELPLESS: Anyone' who would consider Thanks-
giving in Viet Nam a blessing would have a tough time pass-
ing the physical, so forget it.
There is no law that can force a man to live with his
mother even though she is a hardship case, so if you don’t
like the set-up there, move, and contribute to your mother s
support some other way.
DEAR ABBY: I just went through a bankruptcy so you
know what kind of financial shape I am in. When my wife left me
five months ago I agreed to support her.
Now that I went through bankruptcy am I still obligated to
support my wife? She can’t get blood out of a turnip.

DEAR ABBY: Tonight my heart aches for my 13-year-old
daughter who once again attended an after-school dance with-
out an invitation to dance one dance.
When her older brother was that age and popular with
the crowd I always encouraged him to ask the not-so-popular
girls to dance, impressing upon him how much it would mean
to a girl who might not otherwise receive one invitation to
dance during the entire evening.
I was proud that he followed my advice. I wish other
mothers would tell their sons the same thing. Will you help
me, Abby? It could mean so much to the girls.

DEAR MOTHER: You bet I will. An ounce of thought-
fulness can ease a ton of heartache.

Dear Abby ...
On Thoughtfulness
By ABIGAIL VAN BUREN
DEAR ABBY: I am a 38-year-old bachelor who lives with
| my mother to help out as much as possible. For the last three
years my brother, who is a schoolteacher, has lived in
our town with his family. They are over at our smaU place
more than in their own home. They come here for supper
every night, and when there are dishes to be washed after-
wards, they break the 4-minute mile getting away. _
My mother claims it is HER house and I am not allowed ’
to say a word. She says if I leave she can have the law 1
bring me back because she is a hardship case. I would con- 4
sider Thanksgiving in Viet Nam a blessing. Is there any escape? 1
