program of Easter
Plano, TX- The North Texas Affiliate of
Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced
$800,000 in grants awards to ten at its
Grant Reception and Survivor Brunch and
Fashion Show on March 17, 2007 at the
Embassy Suites hotel in Frisco.
The purpose of each Komen Affiliate is
to fulfill the Promise of the organization
within a defined service area. This
Promise is to save lives and end breast
cancer forever by empowering people,
ensuring quality care for all and energiz-
ing science to find the cures. Affiliates
work toward this goal by funding screen-
ing, treatment, and education programs,
STEP, in their communities. The North
Texas Affiliate grants non-profit commu-
nity agencies, educational organizations,
and governmental organizations within
the defined areas of Collin, Denton, and
Grayson counties to carry out breast can-
cer screening, treatment, support, and
education projects.
Activities of the Asian Breast Health
Outreach Project are designed to reach
out to a documented underserved priority
group of Asian women located in Collin
and Denton counties. The focus is.to min-
imize the barriers that keep Asian women
from fully participating in early detection
and preventive breast health. The Asian
Breast Health Outreach Project maintains
a highly visible targeted marketing cam-
paign to reach out to this priority group.

referral will make up a four step orga-
nized process.

American Cancer Society
This grant will provide vouchers for
breast prostheses, bras, and wigs for
underserved breast cancer patients in
Collin, Denton, and Grayson Counties.
The American Cancer Society will provide
a breast cancer education campaign
through 25 churches and community
organizations in all three counties. All
hospitals and treat ment centers providing
oncology services in Collin, Denton, and
Grayson counties will be working to
expand relationships with other facilities.
Baylor Regional Medical Center at
Plano
Will deliver education, breast health
services and Digital screening mammo-
grams to an underserved population of
women who historically do not seek early
detection, prevention, or breast health
education. They will facilitate breast
health education, breast cancer risk
assessments, scheduling of screening
mammograms and referrals for treat-
ments. Reaching the growing Hispanic,
Asian, and underserved populations in
Collin County in need of breast health
education is the goal of breast care for a
Lifetime communication educational pro-
grams in 2007 - 2008.
Collin County Health Care Services
The Collin County continues to be the
second fastest growing county in Texas
with an increase of 25.8% in the last five
years. They have been involved in a
breast screen and education program for
the past six years. Their project will
include free clinic breast exams and free
mammograms to 325 women in their tar-
Denton County Health Department
Their program Mammogram Project is
to improve access to breast cancer early
detection screenings for qualifying
women. 100% of women who meet the
qualification of the Denton County Health
Department’s Mammogram Project will
be identified and given the opportunity to
receive a low-cost mammogram. Their
funds will pay for 300 qualifying women to
get their yearly mammogram screening.

The program of Grayson
County Health Department is
“Early Detection and Patient
Care of Medically Underserved
Grayson County Women” focus-
ing on breast health education,
screening, and patient care/sup-
port services with a target audi-
ence of Black, Hispanic, and
older medically underserved
women. Their program will
encourage women to access
these services and will be with
each woman from clinical breast

Foundation
Funding of this program is for
medically underserved women
of Grayson County to access free
screening mammograms, diag-
nostic mammograms, ultra-
sounds and particularly follow-
up visits to the physicians who
perform biopsies and surgeries I
for these patients. As advocates
of health and well being, the pro-
gram aims for not only remedial
care, but also preventive care,
education, and wellness. This
past year more than 30 women
have received vital life saving
medical care as a result of Susan
G. Komen funds being made
available. The services have
ranged from basic diagnostic
mammograms to breast biopsies
and chemotherapy treatments.
Komen Affiliates raise funds
through various means, including
Komen Race for the Cure®
events and various other
fundraisers throughout the year.
Up to 75% of the net proceeds
remain in the local community to
fund education screening and
treatment programs. A minimum
of 25% is contributed directly to
the Komen Foundation’s
Research and Grant Award
